So to save a buck I bought no-brand oval nerf bars from Ebay.

When I installed them the bars have a lean to them. There arent many adjustments I can make as far as lean ..pretty much just up and down. I tried several combinations and I cant figure it out.

What are your thoughts on this..poor install by me or poor cheap design?

It's been a while since I installed mine, but the brackets and all were all 90 degree angles.

Can you post pics of the brackets attached to underside?

Did your use brackets that used the body bolts?

Have you (used them) since installed or was this a pic right after install? The reason for asking (not saying you're overweight), but when you stepped up on it, it might have bent. I would see that as a sign of weak metal and wouldn't trust them and get my money back.

I'd return them if you can, these aren't that complicated to install so I doubt you put them in wrong. Just a suggestion but if you're uncertain you could always get a local garage to try to correct it, should only cost you an hour labor. If they also can't do it that means the product is at fault. Bring them the installation manual.

The pics were after install but they were the same before I even stepped on them.

Here is a pic of the brackets that came with them.

I think that's a design flaw or, like previously stated, could be poorly made and may have bent when you used them. Are the driver's AND passenger side identical as far as the lean?

Yup it is the exact same lean on both sides.

Also, as soon as they bars were mounted, I noticed the lean issue..it wasnt my 180 lb fat butt bending them lol. They are actually pretty strudy.

Then I'd definitely pack them up and ship them back. There's no way those are supposed to lean like that. Send the pics along with the return. That's what I would do.
