I would like a set of nerf Steps similar to the nfab Steps with the drop hoops. I looked at them, Westin RDX, Rough Country and EBay Specials. They all attach to the rocker panel/body metal. Granted I am not a huge guy, have some heavier friends. Either way, attaching a step to a rocker panel sounds like a really bad idea for me.

1) does anyone have these steps and can provide some insight

B) can someone please recommend a nerf drop hoop style step that attaches to the frame.

3) pictures are always great

D) Thanks so much for your help!!!

I have nfabs on my truck. I didn't like that it attaches to the rockers either but supposedly they are rated 400+ lbs if I remember correctly

I weigh roughly 215, have a few buddies in the 250ish range. The steps may be rated for that, but what's to say the panels are and heaven forbid 2 big guys stepped at the same time=trouble.

I have the Nfabs as well.
I searched high and low for any that attach to the frame and not the body but there aren't any.
The Nfabs are strong. I am 235lbs right now and if I stand on the step and bounce I can detect a slight flex. I am going to think it's from the rocker/ hardware that it uses to attach the bars. They use a well nut and bolts.
I am pretty happy with them, other than the fact hat they are rusting since almost the time I installed them. The welds started being rusty just after I put them on and now the main tube also is starting to get some surface rust. This is attributed to the ****** powder coat and so I could just redcoat them, for another $200.
As much as I would prefer they mounted to the frame, they are pretty strong.

Going to have to custom fab some up, I plan to. Maybe later this summer. Might even offer up cad files.

I have had NFabs on the last three Rams I've owned. I'm no lightweight but having installed all 3 sets + helping friends install theirs, I can say there is nothing wrong with the attachment method to the panels behind the rocker.

It is a thick, stamped steel panel that is formed to encompass the entire floor pan area. The design of the step bar mounting flange and the method of fastening places the larger amount of force on this stamped steel. There is no excessive flex that would cause a failure here and the design clears the pinchweld area below the body.

You don't really need step bars that fasten to the frame. My concern with that approach is that you now have this attachment hanging out in space, fastened to the frame without anything to support the arm between the frame flange and step bar assembly. This is actually a weaker method than is what's used on many step bars, OEM and aftermarket alike.

Go look at a OEM installation and a NFAB or other aftermarket installation. You'll see that it is a pretty stout setup.

I had one of my NFab bars ripped off my truck during a collision and with some minor straightening of the bracket, they mounted up to the next truck just fine. Of course, the mounting nutserts in the truck body came out with the step bars at the same time during the collision. :|

I believe White Knuckle rockers install to the frame. I emailed them to see if the had a set for a RCSB but no luck

Edit: just seen that you have a 2010 so they probably will not work for you either.

My cheap eBay 3" tube side steps had a bracket at the front of each step that mounted to the body mount bolt. They had very little flex to them. My new Westin HDX do not and I'm not really that happy about it.

I've had the HDXs on for a few months now and no real flex in them for me (I weight about 185). The only thing to watch out for is the 2 small bolts on front driver side bracket; the nuts on mine backed off almost completely and I started to get some flex. Torqued them back down with some locktite and no more issues.

OP, I searched high and low for frame mounted steps because I had the same thoughts as you. Turns out I couldn't find any. You might have to custom fab some if you're dead set on having frame mounted. Be prepared for heavy and expensive.

Just use stainless ready rod

Drilling in tap bolts into frame and drill through brackets towards the bottom , 5/16 rods are probably plenty
