I recently found and purchased a 2019 Warlock, 4WD and 5.7 Hemi with only 4600 miles on it, yeah, no kidding. But after reading the threads I’m beginning to get nervous about this lifter tick/eating camshaft thing. So many threads recommend certain oils, change intervals, filters, etc…. What is the real scoop? And what do I need to do to ensure a long life for my truck? Thanks for your input.

Hemis can last a long time if it doesnt have tick, and the small % that do get tick ram forum has cured 80% of those, so it is yet and even smaller number that can't be solved. The best thing you can do is not worry until you get the tick, and if you get some tick which sounds more like a knock, is start the uoa path. Used oil analysis will straighten it out for you because most cam fails happen slowly overtime. But don't put the cart before the horse, chill. The difference between other places and here, we have developed options for most ticks, welcome to ram forum.

if you were in military find military roll call thread and get your banner.

I'll try to help you some. It's not a guarantee you'll have an issue. I have a 2012 Ram 2500 with 217,000 miles with no issue. I also have a 2012 Ram 1500 with 140,000 miles with no issue. So it's like all other brands, they have issues. Change your oil with a good synthetic of your choice (I use 5W20 PUP) at 5000 miles and you've done the best you can. Just don't let it drive you crazy, the chances of it happening to you is a lot slimmer than it happening. Enjoy your truck!

Chrysler Techs on this Forum estimate 5-10% of Hemis got tick damage.
While normally too high a failure rate for a production engine, known success with lubrication strategies have way reduced this.

I follow the strategy and don't worry anymore.

Welcome to the forum. Follow Burla's advice in the threads in his signature. I follow spec with a good filter. I run seafoam through the crank case every 15k. Mine serves me well and has for many years. Dont be scared. I felt the same way shortly after getting mine. Also Biotech Lube Guard is another great thing to add to your oil. I am running it in mine as well. I have been running Castrol Edge with a Puraltor boss filter for almost 100k with no issues. I did get the tick briefly. I went old school and tried Castrol edge and it was what mine needed. Not always the case. Every motor is different. Some like Redline, some like Pennzoil Platinum, some like Mobil 1, others like Castrol. It all just depends.

Decent oil, good filter, change it regularly, and drive it hard. Don't let it idle for long. Mine has lifter failure but it was a fleet truck that idled 4+hours a day for years. Don't neglect the rest of regular maintenance of course, fluid changes elsewhere as needed etc. I wouldn't hesitate to own another, crazy as it sounds, I have way more knowledge and experience now, to try to avoid and prevent the issues. Thanks to this forum!

Mine's got 167k mi ...mostly all hwy. (2012)

I wouldn't worry about it. There are earthquakes, tornados, floods, etc, you can't control all variables in life.
