Looking for some insight here! I have a 2009 ram 1500 5.7 quad cab 4x4 with a 6” lift and I am thinking I may have a bad CV axle. Recently while driving I have noticed a cyclic sound which is very noticeable when outside the truck. It is coming from the front drivers side and sounds like something rubbing against rubber every time the wheel rotates. I brought the truck home and jacked it up so both front tires were off the ground. When I rotate the tires by hand I notice that the drivers side cv axle spins true but the passenger side CV axle pushes the assembly in and out about 1/8” when I rotate and looks like it is wobbling. Now it looks like the front passenger side of the IFS has the actuator or housing bolted to a rubber isolator up top that would also be moving back and forth as it rotates and this could be my noise. Does this sound like a bad CV axle or possibly an intermediate shaft or something else? Thanks for any help!
Truck does have 275,000 miles and I believe it is still the original CV axle.
