That’s a rig lol. It never fails. I keep m9ne really nice but then the dings, scratches etc start to happen. Then it’s just whatever and you give up. I thought my bull was gonna rip my tailgate off one day. He was out there just picking g it up with his head and dropping it over and over again

Yeah. I remember when one of my city slicker friends wanted to feel like a real cowboy and come help me at the farm and ranch one weekend. He wanted to take his truck instead of mine because he wanted to "off road" the thing like I do with my truck. I asked him if he was sure because I have some hog traps I needed to move and he said his truck can take it.

We got down to the farm, and loaded the first hog trap. I was a little surprised that his truck(GM 1500) did take it well, but it was only about 700 lbs. We started going down the roads to the back of the property and I told him to cut through some brush. He looked at me like I was asking him to give up his first born. He said "but that will scratch up my truck". I reminded that he said he wanted "off road" his truck like I do with my truck. I swear he must have been crying every time he heard a mesquite limb along the side of his truck.

He never offered to take his truck again after that.

There’s a reason I only get silver or white trucks.

A) Its a gas Heavy Duty, it will lose value much like a 1500 will. It won’t hold value like a Cummins, but I don’t plan to sell it till its long paid off, so I’m not as worried.

Even as a gasser though, based on my shopping around for a used one originally, they'll hold their value until about the 80-100k pretty strong (at least until then). The used prices were close enough to the new ones the price I got the new one at was cheaper than some used stickers with 30-50k miles on 'em. So it really isn't a huge concern at all, and like you said once over 100k it's likely about paid off anyway.

One of my major reasons for buying a 6.4 Hemi instead of the Cummins was money. $9200 in my area for the diesel option. Well, I can buy a lot of gas. At my average of 2.99 for mid grade I can buy 3076.93 gallons of gas. At my MPG avg that’s 43,692.3 miles. Will that change, probably but still a major decision for me. That’s not even factoring in Cummins Maintenance. I say that because my brother-in-law formed out $7000+ in maintenance items during the first 3 years of owning his Cummins, he’s back in a gasser now.

HOWEVER, if I was towing super heavy all the time, I would have bought a 3509 Dually Cummins with Aisin trans and 4.10 gears. But I’m not, so I couldn’t justify the cost. Plus the payload capacity on a 2500 Hemi vs a 2500 Cummins is about 2500-3000 difference, equally equipped. So consider the weight of your trailer and how much of that will be tongue weight which will limit what you can put in your truck.

Plus count in DEF along with gas. It's not all that much, but neither is a gallon of gas realistically. They both add up.

And 4.10s!!!!

2018 2500 6.4 4x4 4.10 Amsoil SS 0w-40, Softopper
Black Rhino Armory 18x9 +12mm
Cooper Stt MAXX LT295/70R18

2016 Durango 5.7 AWD 3.07 Amsoil SS 5W-30
1996 Nissan Altima 2.4 Amsoil SS 5W-30

I've been curious about this. Mine has the Snow Plow Prep but it's listed as 3.73s. Can it have the prep without 4.10s?

Then again my VIN seems to say it should have the 30+ gallon gas tank (and selling dealer said it as well) but it's on empty just before 26. I need to ask the local dealer about that one for certain.

New guy here with similar concerns/questions as the OP.

My truck will not be a daily driver and would only be seeing 5-6000 miles a year, towing about 6000 lbs of enclosed trailer with motorcycles.

I'll be replacing a Ford excursion with the V10.

Great info folks.

My old 5.9 Magnum 1500 did that, although wasn't happy with hills or highway speeds. The 6.4L should trounce it easily.

All 2500/3500 CC Short beds have the 31 gallon tank. It’s a programming issue.

Not sure why it has 3.73s. Mine is snow plow prep and had 4.10s. Maybe it’s the way the dealer ordered it?

That would be my luck on the gears. Murphy's related.

Maybe I'll have to stick a 5 gallon gas can in the back one of these times and let it go until it starts coughing to be sure. Not healthy to do often, but once shouldn't be an issue. Knock on wood if I can get my tuner it can be fixed.

The 4.10s are a separate option. Snow plow prep is just transfer case skid plate and a bigger alternator.

Haha. I just picked up my 6.4 last Friday. I am hoping it'll be a descent tow machine for me. A couple hills to climb between Seattle and PDX. I'll have a about 6-7k enclosed trailer behind me. Enjoy your new Monster!
