New spark plugs @ 100,000?

I do mine every 2 years. Super easy thru the wheel wells.

They dont call them Stealership for nothing...

How easy? Like a 2 year old could do it? Or like a woman could do it? Lol I've been debating..

Well mine is a done deal. Took it in Saturday and waited for 4 hours to get it back. They don’t do appointments on Saturday just first come first serve and I obviously wasn’t first.

Did the spark plugs, the pcv valve and some type of cleaning of an intake that is supposedly recommended at 100.000.

just glad to have it done.


I take my MOPARs in for plugs too. Once every 100,000 miles, just in case they are seized plus I am lazy in my old age. I still do my own brakes.

I've been told more than once about the intake, once as early as 50,000 miles. It is not mentioned in the service part of the owners manual and they could not provide a service bulletin. So I called BS on it. How can they tell it needs cleaned if they don't look at it first?

I am not saying you should not have had intake done. This is just my take on it. I was told I needed the differential fluid changed on my RAM 2500 at 32,000 miles. Even if I towed a lot I think it is recommended at 50,000 or 60,000. I do not tow anything.

We have 205,000 on our Town and Country. I have turned them down more than twice for cleaning the intake and/or decarbonization. Still runs and responds like always. The MPG has not changed since new which is not that good for a V6 in my opinion, 23-24 at interstate speeds. My 6.4 RAM 2500 4x4 gets 16. Wife's 5.7 Challenger gets 24.

Yeah they may have gotten me on the intake. I figured at 100,000 it couldn’t be a bad thing since I already had it in there. We’ll see now if I see any performance increases. My work commute and about town driving has me between 18-20. I had gotten 24 one time on the highway shortly after I got it, but nothing over 21 since. Would love to see 22-24 on the highway on our few trips each year.

I changed spark plugs on a different vehicle at 100,000 miles. I will not be waiting that long again! :eek:

That looks like a case for getting them changed no later that 100.000.

So what about subsequent changes? Should it be done a little more frequently after 100,000 or does it just more depend on how the vehicle is performing?

Not only the hemis have 16 plugs. I have a 2012 4.7 and there are 16 as well. Maybe is time to change them, since I'm at 125000.!

...Now the part I an dreading is the axel and transfer case and Transmission fluid change, not all that's going bur a hole in my wallet. Allthese were due before 100,000 miles which I have not done yet. 4x4's are not cheap to maintain.

I don't see anything in my manual about a change interval for these...

I was informed on this site the 6.4L PCV system is "internal" whatever that means and is not serviceable.

Intake cleaning is usually for the throttle body where the PCV inserts the crankcase fumes, but I don't understand why the 6.4L Hemi is completely different from the 5.7L Hemi. The block is the same size.

You sit down on your tire easy, But I have a 4" lift and 1.5" Body lift and that makes it 100x easier. lol....

Yea, different brand and number. But the left one came out of the same motor the right one went into.
Not sure your point?
You removed an iridium plug and replaced it with a copper plug.
The life span of a copper plug is far less than iridium.

Curious how many changed the spark plugs at or around 100,000 and if you noticed much of a difference after?


Also heard the plugs are pretty pricey?? Dealership is asking about $400 to do a tune-up.
The spark plugs are replaced when worn out. I have 15 Ram 2500 4x4 6.4L Hemi I replaced the first time at 35,000 miles then done an exhaust modification. I changed the second set at 96,000 miles the plugs were worn not as bad as first I believe that with the exhaust system. 0
Your exhaust system may have two pipes but is still single exhaust, if you want more info on the exhaust I will tell you.

Ok gotcha. We were planning on trading it in soon anyway.

What about the condition of the electrode at 100,000 miles. Iridium or not?

That was my point. 100,000 miles ia way too much.

The OE iridium plugs that I pulled from my 2015 5.7 (at 106,000 miles) did not have very much wear on them at all.

The electrode on the iridium is very small as well. They are pre-gapped IIRC. I checked the NGK 92145's that I bought and they were all good.

Be very gentle when checking the gap as well. I'd wager it can be damaged fairly easy if not careful.

The tech said the plugs looked pretty good due to quality fuel. I fill up at Costco all the time and switch between premium and regular.

Some new info........this weekend my son helped his buddy change plugs on his 2014 5.7L Hemi Ram 1500 ~ 100,000 miles. Original OEM plugs looked good - worn, but good. Light tan color, no deposits, electrodes just starting to wear.

Looks like the NGK OEM plugs (double iridium) works well. NGK brand is "Laser Iridium" for the double-ended. Even though the newer engines are waste spark anymore.
