Two weeks ago i had a lady run into my driver side tire. Put the spare on and drove it home the steering was way off so decided to take it to a garage as her insurance was covering all the repairs. They replaced the steering box, sector shaft, and steering damper. They said everything was fine and it was for about a week now the play is back.

I popped the hood and grabbed the steering shaft. I can rotate it in either direction about 1.5" before it gets tight and can see the steering wheel in the cab moving as i turn it.

Does anyone have any ideas what has happened or is happening? I feel like i should not be able to move the shaft 1.5" input with no output especially on a new box.

There should be an adjustment screw on top of the steering box with a locking system. If they forgot to lock down that screw it may have loosened up and gave the system play.

Check the Pitman arm, I thought I had a steering box problem and it turned out that the center link wasn't moving with the pitman arm until about 2 inches of travel on the wheel.

Good luck!

Yep, take it back, with your paperwork and SHOW THEM. Show the shop service writer.

If the paperwork fails adjustments are rather easy, but do take some time and patients.

Much better, wasn't sawing on the wheel driving to work. I'm hoping driving it for a week out of adjustment didn't damage the box.
