I have a 2013 1500 i just got a 88mm TB and after install it worked fine at first but the next time I started up the engine the engine light came on and I got 2 messages “electronic throttle control” and “service trailer brake”. The truck would only go 10mph and the brakes were stiff and hard to brake and the vehicle would lurch and the truck sounded like ****. I put on the old TB and all errors were gone. I put the new one back on and everything worked great for about a day and half then the same errors occurred on start up. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Where did you order the TB from? Depending on the porting job and size the engines can be picky with them especially if stock. On a stock 5.7 I’d say 85mm is the size you’d want. Modern Muscle Extreme has OEM Mopar TB’s ported to flow with the stock intake manifolds.

88mm is to large for stock engine, need a performance camshaft & convertor change along with tuner/tune.

This just depends on what brand throttle body it is. If you are running a true bore 88mm, then that is too big for the truck and is likely causing a high idle. You are going to need custom tuning for any true bore throttle body.

We do an 87mm ported unit that retains the factory blade for this exact reason. The port is tapered to allow increased airflow at WOT, but not at idle which is what keeps the computer happy and prevents the codes you are throwing now.

Which brand is it though? That will tell us if it’s a true bore 85MM or if it’s a ported 85MM.

It’s a true 85mm bored OEM unit. I got from a fellow member on the forum.

A true bore 85mm is way too big for a bolt on truck and is going to cause idle and surging issues. You can help some of that with tuning, but even then, it is almost impossible to make it go away completely. Bigger is not always better, and throttle bodies and exhaust pipe sizing are 2 main scenarios where that concept applies.
