In a previous thread I posted I just purchased a 2018 2500 with the 6.7. The truck only had 9800 when I bought it. There is a dealer sticker on the windshield stating the the next oil change is at 14,*** miles and my onboard computer is down to the last 2 bars for oil life.
So I am reading some very helpful threads here and from that advice I just found the 2 fuel filters and the oil filter (all Mopar and I verified the part numbers) for $110. I also bought a 28mm socket for $8.
Here's where I need some help. I ask a different dealer than the the one I bought the truck from what oil to use. He originally said 15W40 Rotella conventional. Then he looked up my VIN and said I need to use 15W40 Rotella T6 full synthetic. I can't find anything in the truck that tells me if I should be using synthetic or conventional oil. Which should I use? I assume I should use the synthetic but I don't want to mess up my very expensive engine! Also, the dealer said I should change the oil every 7500 miles and the fuel filters at the same time. I'm reading here fuel filters every other oil change, which is right? And lastly on the oil, I doubt I will drive 7500 miles a year as this truck is primarily my tow vehicle. So if I don't hit 7500 miles, will once a year be ok?
Also, Amazon likes to bundle items, so when I bought the filters it suggested I buy a Fram air filter and a spanner wrench for the water/fuel separator. I read here not to use a K&N air filter. What air filter will work best? Also, is that spanner wrench necessary or will any appropriately sized wrench work?
I'm disappointed that there is no maintenance book with the truck. Every other vehicle I've owned had some sort of schedule for maintenance. I plan to watch some Youtube videos before I dive into this but any other advice or links to actual 6.7 maintenance (like a technical order, something that directs you what to do, how to do it and torque specs) would be great!
Thanks in advance
