Yesterday i traded in my my silver 14 SLT quad cab which I loved but it was time for a bigger cab. Picked up this 2017 1500 Crew Cab Big Horn. From what I can see someone has installed leveling springs in the front. They are sliver powedercoated. I've owned 4wd trucks, diesel duallys, but never a 2wd with a leving kit. The truck feels huge compared to my slt and makes me think that I am driving a 4wd. Love all of the added options and my kids love all of the extra room in the cab.

Three downsides i can see so far.
1. Front suspension is much stiffer which is understandable.

2. 3.21 rearend is less than desirable for this truck even when you are not hauling.

3. Fuel mileage difference is huge so far around town. My slt was averaging around 18.5 to 20 and this truck is struggling to average 14.5 to 15. It is not a daily driver but I still hate to give up mileage.

It's a great looking truck, but I can't figure why the mileage would be so low, especially with the 3.21s. Is the tire size the same as stock?

Welcome to the RAMily,

Nice looking truck! Yaw I guess the crew-cab being a bit larger would be heavier, thus increasing the fuel consumption. (But I still think that's outrageous)

I get 14.5 with a crew cab and 3.92s around town when I drive it like NASCAR.

I wouldn't think the raised front end would cost you much mileage in town, maybe a mile or two on the highway. Pics look like stock tire height, and probably width too.

The tires are 275/60/20 load range D so I imagine they are good bit heavier than the stock tires. I believe the window stick said the mileage was 15/22.

It's a good tire. It's what I'm planning on putting on when I run out of tread on the factories. Can't quite wrap my head around why the move to 285/60-20 pushes the price from $235 to $385. I might go with the 275/65-20 but I'd like to see them on a Ram before I buy them. I don't know if they look like pizza cutters.

I was surprised that they ride as well as they do being that they are D loads. However i have them at 40psi compared to the 60psi they call for to accommodate the full load the tire can handle.I have no plans for this truck to change much other than removing the step bars and putting a set of electric steps on it. I just hate how these hang down.
I also do not like the dual exhaust thru the bumper. On the other truck i had removed the resonator and stock muffler and repalced with a super 44 flowmaster that exited behind the right rear tire. I may do that to this as well but the bumper will look odd without the tips in place. My 7 year old has already burnt himself on one of these tips.

You will likely find someone here that will trade you the bumper that wants to go with factory dual exhaust. Some of the trims came with single (Outdoorsman, some others I don't remember) exhaust.
