So, I've owned my 2013 Tradesman w/3.6 and 8 spd tranny for a few weeks now... Saturday, I was leaving my house, drove downhill, turned left at the intersection and right after I got around the corner, the truck stalled. All the dials and normal running lights were lit. No check engine lights or warning stuff going off. I dialed it into Neutral and rolled out of traffic into a turn lane. Dialed the transmission into Park. The engine cranks, but never fired. Interestingly, when I did turn the key, it would stay cranking the engine until I physically turned the key back (never had a car that did that).

Roadside Assistance got my truck towed back to the dealer. It's there now.... I stopped by there this afternoon (having not heard a thing and needing to swap out my loaner used car for a rental) they said it had an appointment with a transmission specialist.

Are folks having problems with the 8 speed transmissions? I was kind of enjoying the idea of it... 8 speeds, smooth shifting, seems to be getting great gas mileage. It was running beautifully... up until it just didn't.

I'm not really looking for the ultimate solutions, but to see if anyone has had similar issues.

Thanks in advance,

John F.

Welcome to the forum!
I don't think anyone has reported the same issue as you. Please keep us updated on the outcome. I am very interested to see what caused this problem and if it's going to plague other owners with similar trucks.

Sort of the same thing that happened to my fathers brand new 2013 ram 3500 big horn with the 6.7.

We turned out of a parking lot and the truck just wouldn't go anywhere after about half the turn. No go.
Lost power but no lights or anything came on! Everything looked normal!
He was getting nervous because by now trucks were coming his way! He let off the gas and then pushed it again. Away it went.
He got lucky. But not as lucky as ram did.
If anything would have happened to my father because of that.... I would have sued ram so hard they would have to go crawling back and be under dodge again.

Well, it seems they got some transmission expert out to look at it and he put the key in and it started right up. The service lead drove it several times yesterday to test it and never got it to duplicate.

They did put in a ticket to the Star team because they, like I, couldn't get it to start last Saturday when it was towed in. Will update as more info is available.

Funny, I returned the used car loaner they had given me (a Sebring, not exactly jobsite friendly) and they got me a rental car. Enterprise was offering a Nissan Ultima. I begged and pleaded and reminded them of what I do for a living. They checked the big board of keys and found me an F-150. People keep telling me I'll fall in love with it... Sorry to report, I have not. I miss my Ram already.

I had the same problem! 2 days in a row. I drove about 2 miles and it died. I had to turn the key to off for about 10 seconds and it would start right up. I took it to the dealership and of course it behaved and ran perfect. They did do an update to the PCM- TSB# 1803513 and so far so good. If anyone can tell me what that 'flash' was supposed to fix, that would be great. ( work order just tells the the TSB# and that is all.)

This thread is funny to me because I had water in fuel messages in and out, check engine lights in and out, memory seat messages in and out but the truck ran like a beast. I took it to the dealership three times also with a star case. The third time they did a software reboot or reinstall and it has been fine since. I guess they are working the bugs out of the software in the 13's.

Got the truck back tonight... it seems it was an electrical connector for the fuel pump.

Nothing wrong with transmission or software.

I'll take the good solid excuse over the nebulous any time!

She ran fine on the way home. And, I was mighty grateful to be out of the loaner/rental F-150.

Put my dads 3500 on the simulator and reflashed it. So far so good.

I am currently having the exact same problem with my 2015 SLT. Out of nowhere the truck loses power and every light on the dash lights up. Sometimes it completely stalls, sometimes the engine drops to 500 RPM and slowly the lights all go out and it will accelerate again. I have read that the TIPM may need to be replaced?
