Newbie lift questions

I've tried searching for the answers but I'm not finding them.

I'm thinking about getting a lift kit for my 2018 Crew Cab 1500 4x4. At what size lift do you have to start replacing UCA's, doing a diff drop, getting longer cv axles, etc.

I'm not looking to go crazy on the lift like maybe 4". I am wanting to do more and more offroading but not rock crawling.

Most actual lift kits come with the necessary parts. It's not like you buy a 4" lift kit and then you have to buy drop brackets, knuckles and such separately. Often the price difference between a base level kit and a high level kit are upgrades that are nice to have, and not really "required" for the lift to work.

Absolutely not true.

A good quality lift can ride even better than a stock truck.

Buy a good quality 4” lift kit and it will come with all the parts needed to do it right.

No it dosent at all with a real spindle lift. Unless you buy rust country junk. My truck rides smother now that it ever did with the garbage factory set-up.

My new to me not lifted 5th gen rides like crap compared to my lifted 4th gen on big tires. Can't wait to get some parts under it. Speed bumps suck with the stock setup!

As far as diff drop and all that jazz, typically you start getting into that territory when you go with a 4in kit or higher. You won't see front drive shaft spacers and drop brackets with strut lift/level stuff. And the control arms really never need to be replaced with any of the kits as they come with geometry correcting knuckles.

If you were to install something like Bilstein 5100's set at 2" or higher, you are going to stress your upper ball joint at full extension. That is really when you should consider upgrading your control arms.

This is an overall generalization, please don't go flaming me over it. If you want to talk about specific parts my opinion would change.

On my truck I am going to go with either eibach's or Bilsteins cranked to the max and I will be swapping my upper control arms. Just waiting a bit until I need new tires.

Lifts /Levels are suspension improvements. Unfortunately you may have experienced a company such as rough country or an installation not done properly. Its sad, I have had 100% positive feedback from new installs to fixing botched installs from various shops in our area. (If your from NJ like your profile shows) My 2012 with a 6" lift and 37" tires rides smoother than any stock ram believe it or not. Along with the hundreds of other trucks ive touched. So much so that i ended up opening a building that specializes in Ram suspension because no one around can seem to understand them. They vary a lot and the models are extensive. No other truck brand offers the amount of packages Ram offers

As said before @Nick@GotExhaust is going to be your answer because at the end of the day decisions become how much you're willing to spend and not so much what you want

We are talking via PM, there are many factors that play into this. That being said, more importantly what are you looking to do with the truck? Then base the parts list off of that so you have a truck capable of your wants/needs.
