Thinking about getting a new(er) Ram crew cab. It's been a few cars since I've had anything fast, and its starting to drive me crazy...

My thoughts are to do some sort of FI and a cam. How are the transmissions on these? Will it require a built trans, or just an upgraded valve body? Is it possible to get into the 11's with one? i looked through the time slip thread and theres not much impressive there, but those all were N/A.

Never had a dodge before and just don't know much about them, so thanks for some guidance.

Out of curiosity why a truck if your looking to hit 11's? and why a crew cab, its one of the biggest and heaviest. Why not an R/T? Or something that would be easier to get into the 11's. Just curious.

Hell my other Hemi LX Wagon is rather quick but to get 11's I would surely have to get Rid of the MDS and the 24 MPG US I get now on the HWY Cruising at 65 MPH (3.06 Gears) and move down 700 Meters Towards the Sea.

Welcome to RF, You may want an 05-06 SRT-10 QuadCab with a Stage 3 Valve Body (48re I Think) or like king said a Single Cab Hemi with Big Ass Gears to start.

There are plenty of low 12 second quad and crew cab trucks, but that 11.9 barrier is tough to overcome. And like you said, the transmission is always going to be the weak link with the 545rfe. If you want 11's, I would look into a used 5.9 cummins 4 door. You can run 11.9 easily with a set of twins and some fuel. You will still get the same mileage as a regular gas truck, and it will be reliable if you set it up correctly. The 48RE is easy to build as well and will handle just about anything you can throw at it.

Need a truck, and I need a crew cab because I have three teenagers.

If I could, I would definetly get another sports car, but that's gonna have to wait a few more years. SO I'm thinking about just getting what I "need" and trying to make it what I "want" aka fast

What concerns me is the limited aftermarket and tuning available for dodge and like you said, that magical 11.9 barrier.

GM's don't seem to be hard to make that fast, but weak transmission and the fact that EVERYONE drives one makes me turn away from them.

I like being different, and I love the room of the crew cab ram. Toyota's are a little bigger, but IMO lack the quality.

If you dont have to get a brand new truck, then seriously consider the diesel I mentioned before. An 03-07 5.9 4wd Cummins. All it takes is a turbo, some injectors, and a built transmission to go 11.9's. Mine was doing 12.8's on 37's with a 2.1 60' time because I was scared to launch it too hard with the stock output shaft. With a billet output shaft, I would have launched at 20psi and guaranteed mid 12's. Put that same powerplant in a truck with stock size tires, and you are knocking on the doors of high 11's.

+1 for diesel if you wanna go fast :) I seen on that show where they guess run times and a rclb 5.9 with "two chips stacked" <don't think it really works that way anymore but whatever. They all guessed like 16's and that truck did a high 12 on stock tires.

I went from a diesel truck thinking these new ram hemi's would be comparable.
Needless to say I'm miserable haha. They are quick on 33s and with 3.92's from factory but once you get to lifting and bigger tires well it's all down hill.

After I started reading this thread I did a quick search autotrader for some 5.9s between 03-07 and found a few under 50k miles for $25k or less
