I started having starting issues yesterday. I thought it was just an old starter and replaced it. Truck started up fine after and this morning.
I tried to start the truck to go home after work and it is having the issue again.

Issue: Starter engages and turns the engine but stops after a one second. It does this over and over. After several attempts it will start. It varies how many attempts it takes.

Battery: 2 mo old tests fine under load.
Alternator: Tests fine under load.
Cables: Were cleaned within the last month while working on O2 sensor issue.

I marked the belt and was able to se that it moves each time I engage the starter, but the starter isn't engaging long enough to start the truck.

I am at a loss at where to look for possible issues. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Without being there, i can only guess

It almost sounds like the replacement starter, may have the incorrect bendix or gear that engages the flywheel
