About a month ago I went against my own judgement and got my trans fluid changed at a local drive in valvoline. A month later and I'm having odd shifts.

Yesterday I got on it pretty good and it seemed like it didn't want to shift up. This morning on my way to work I got on the gas to speed up slowly and it dropped down like to go out of OD and started to go then it started to bump every few seconds so I got off of it for a little and then back into it and it was ol then. Ideas? Trade in the truck? LOL

What fluid did they put in the truck? I would check the paper and also go to that shop explaining your truck has been fine since day 1 till they serviced your trans. Im willing to bet they put in the wrong fluid.

I'll check the paperwork on lunch, what should the fluid be to begin with? I wish I just would have waited, but I always get my oil changed there since I really don't have a place to do it myself, and I was at about 70,000 so over the trans service mileage. Decided I better just do it (like I said against my better judgement) since I saw no time in the future due to my work and hellish schedule to get it done anywhere else...Now it seems I should have almost just waited lol...How hard is it to do a trans filter kit? Might just suck it up and ask my dad to use the garage and do it myself anyways. Just need to make some time for it I guess if it isn't that hard.

The filter kit is pretty easy just have a very large pan to catch the fluid. Should have put ATF +4 in there. Check and see if they did a flush, IMO if a flush hasnt been done for a certain amount of miles it causes more harm then good to do it.

I talked to a friend of a friend who is a Dodge tech at a local dealership. He is dropping his truck at my place and taking mine into work to do the trans flush with the mopar fluid and replacing the filters too right away. Unfortunately I don't have a place to easily do it myself. Luckily he said he would hook me up. He said that they most likely use fluids that work in almost all vehicles, and Mopars don't like that. So let's hope not to much damage has been done

So what's the good mileage for tranny fluid change/flush? I plan on changing my fluid/filter at 30-35K miles. Should I do it sooner? I don't wanna worry about having tranny problems or anything down the line, so I'd like to keep it in tip-top shape.

The tech that's going to take care of my trucks issue reccomends every 40 for the filters and fluid change

So checked the paperwork, and then did some research...apparently expecting someone to do the right thing was totally ******* wrong. They used Valvoline Max Life ATF...which form what I read is a dex/merc mix of sorts, nowhere close to an ATF4...Will be calling them tomorrow and seeing what they are going to do to fix it, if they don't fess up I'm going higher, and if they don't, I'm going even higher. In the end I will have then paying for any and all repairs the ********...back to doing stuff on my own no matter how hard it will be.

Also read numerous threads elsewhere and articles stating nearly the exact instances my truck is having with the fluid and the 45RE

Flushes are fine for tranny's if done regularly at service intervals. If you're over say 100,000 and its NEVER been done then LEAVE IT ALONE!!!

I wouldn't reccomend it at 70,000 especially with the incorrect fluids

Maintenance schedule says 64,000 miles

Personally never done a flush just filters and 5 or 6 quarts. I have never wrecked or had a single issue on one of my rigs doing this with correct fluid of course. It is a debate that will never end but I have never heard of filters and some fluid causing issues but have heard of flush causing issues. I look at it like an oil change I never flush my engines and it works great never blown up a motor.

To each his own just my opinion.

Flush and filters would be best for you at this point deputy. Get rid of any of that incorrect fluid that way.
