Shouldn't your comprehensive pay for that? I hit a deer (I've hit many over the years) about 6 months after we bought our new 2014 Durango. It did over $8,000 damage. Comp paid for it all (I have zero deductible comprehensive, if you didn't know zero ded is really cheap and worth it).

Pulled into a Holiday Inn in Kalispel Northern Montana 2010 with my 2500 2008 Dodge truck. Noticed that ALL trucks in the parking lot were "Big 3" brands and ALL had guards on the front and Montana plates. I got the message! Storm was coming in so left at 4 in the morn next day and shortly after drove into it with 6 inches of snow on the road. Shortly after three deer meandered across the road and I slowed but could not stop, missing the last by inches. The next 50 miles, saw 14 dead deer carcasses either on the shoulder or middle median, some gutted by wolves, so had to be a few days old though some were fresh.

I got the message. Stopped at next town tire shop, noting lights on and people inside at 6 A.M. Door was locked but they let me in. Owner there served me when I bought four new Cooper studded snows at a low price. Must have liked my attitude and NRA hat.

Several weeks later crossed border to "Canuckistan" and on way home bought a stainless steel guard and two KC "pencil beam" high distant lights to mount on guard. Never had a close call let alone collision with any animal since then but have the two mounted lights focused/aimed down the road far past my original headlight beams and learned that at night deer have eyes that are easily identified by their "diamond" reflection. Skunks have red eyes in the light. I watch for these two colors for obvious reasons. Other animals can be identified by their eyes of specific color. Note transports have heavy steel 1.5 inch diameter guards mounted on hinges to allow pins to be pulled so they can be lowered out of the way to effect easier access to the engine. These units weigh hundreds of pounds and repel bear, deer, moose without any damage to the rig. They throw any animal off the road and usually kill though in the USA, night riders with CC permits stop and check, finishing the job if necessary.

My truck is close to 340,000 km and while I have no plans to get another, (looking to hit 500,000 or more) I would never have one without the guard/light combination on it.

2" steel pipeView attachment 220560 Baja low profile style, 3 LED light bars 1000w,
off road jack & tow chain, front hitch & flag hitch. 2 deer and 1 dog. $0 damage. 1 6ft tall elk, estimate 800-900 lbs. $2500 damage, fender & door. Elk bounced off truck, slid into dirt and bushes & ran off

That seams awful heavy are you sure? Mine isn't even half that but is larger. Did you field dress that elk? Sounds like you need to carry game bags, lol.

Maybe my full wrap will pay off, do you think that elk would have taken the fender if you had a full wrap?

Damn! Uou drew the short straw.
I waited a whole month before killing my first deer.
At least I put my bar on during that month and didn't have to fix anything or make a claim.
Hope your insurance pays you.
You know, if you still had your old vehicke, that deer would have been miles away. Just how life is I guess. Kamikazi deer like shiny stuff.
