I am at the dealer now..dealer told me I must change my oil now..7450 miles.. was told I should change oil every 7500. I asked them about the owners manual it says 15000 or when the truck tells you... They said FCA says never go over 10000 and it will damage my truck and I might void my warranty. Told them to look it up .. they did.. said FCA has 15000 or 6 months. They still told me It was not a good idea and I want my truck to last do it under 10k miles...so my question is what do you guys think.....

I dont think its a scam, I think its a dealer being dumb about gas vs diesel engines.

10K is the longest suggested for gas, diesel might be different.

But honestly Im not sure I would go 10K miles on *any* type of engine.

I do 5000 but I have gassers. When I was working in the office (work from home now) my commute was about 75% highway and even at 8000 miles it would still say about 25% left. I never went over 8000 miles as that's what the dealer suggested. But with my last truck and this truck it's 5000 every time no matter what the EVIC says

BS, dealer is trying to make a $

Per the manual the oil change on a cummins is 15000 miles. Many oil analysis's have been done by people over on the cummins forum to back this up. Don't waste your money.

I do mine at 15K.

Wow, interesting posts in this thread.

I change oil every 400 hours on my diesel tractors (scheduled service). I use the same oil in them I do in my RAM Cummins, Rotella T6. This isn't about oil brand it is about the length of service per oil change.

OP, do your self a favor to end any confusion you may have over all the different answers you hear. Run your truck until the oil change indicator alerts you. Send a sample of the oil to Blackstone. This is what I did, now I am completely void that I am doing anything wrong. The oil analysis report indicates the oil still has a long life, why RAM wants a 15,000 or 6-month change cycle is something they have not told us.

My RAM Cummins spends close to 90% of its mileage towing something around 15K pounds. Just like the tractors, the Cummins works hard, just as it was designed to do.

Hubby is committed to 3000. I have to trust as we have never experienced an oil / maintenance related issue.

True, in the yesteryears 3000 was the deadline. But all good.

What about the fuel filters? Is that also a 15,000 mile change?

I’ve been there with a service advisor.. you should really change your oil every 5000k, oil breaks down and can damage your engine.
Also could void your warranty he said.

I called him out on the manual saying 16000 k or once every 12 months. He told me that was the bare minimum. I asked if he would put premium gas in a Toyota Corolla? No cause it’s a waste of money.

I drive 15000 k a year 1 oil change in the spring 1 in the fall.
That’s my 2 cents

The standard oil for the Cummins is Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 and it will easily last up to 15K miles. Your dealer is an idiot trying to get you on an early cycle of oil changes at $189.00 per pop. However, if you are using any fuel with a biodiesel component, then you should change it earlier (10K-12.5K). Cummins Hub - http://www.cumminshub.com/6.7-cummins-maintenance-schedule.html is clear on this and since they make the engine, they should know what is best. Your truck is equipped with an oil life indicator for a reason
