Hi folks,

I need to do a rear and front diff service and I wont know what type of oil for my truck.

RAM 1500. 2014. 5.7 Hemi.

This does have the Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle..

Any pointers would be hugely appreciated.. Especially tips on if I need no-slip diff additive added?

All modern otc oils are "multi use" gear oils, you do NOT need modifier. "They" have determined that having additive in open diff is no real harm, so they put it in every synthetic oil you can find. You have to special order synthetic fluid w/o additive, so once you choose one let me verify it for you. if you just go local your m1 if it says multi use will be good. If you get shudder you can always add more, but it likely wont happen. gl5 is the current spec, make sure bottle says gl5.

to be safe

3 quarts 75w140 for rear

3 quarts 75w90 for front

I think the 2014 will have the AAM axles? (1st year they changed from Dana)

If so, were these also AAM Trac-Rite all gear Torsen, or just their version of wet clutches?

I'm a bit surprised @Burla didn't mention his favorite oil, Redline. I used the Redline 75W140 in my rear, I also have the anti-spin rear axle. I bought a gallon of the Redline and a Slippery Pete pump, no issues with chattering.
I'd you don't tow or haul anything heavy with your truck, there shouldn't be any problem using 75W90 front and rear. Before you point at the owner's manual, I know several Dodge dealers, that's all they use for axle service on trucks.

Thanks so much fellas!

This helps a lot!

@crash68 I do tow a travel trailer every summer with the fam, so I'll go the full meal deal with 75W140 rear and 75W90 front.

Dealership just saw dollar signs at my 60k service and wants to charge me $2,000 for a bunch of stuff that I really dont think I need at 60k like exchange coolant, brake fluid, steering fluid, plugs etc.

Just did my brakes last summer and can do the diff and transfer case fluids and will inspect the rest.

Did you do fluid or just change pads? I have a brake bleeder and I still do it this way.. at 60k oem brake fluid is usually black and toast.

I would do all of those items, but dyi. Drain and Fill coolant and plugs, clean throttle body, all easy dyi I guess plugs may be a little more detailed but use the hemi exactor should be easy.

I think the 2014 is the one year that calls for unicorn ****, I hope @Hemi395 can handle that, i think he has tried a few fluids in that t case. you have to choose, 30 dollar stuff or maybe amsoil or redline. I'm not sure what redline or amsoil he used.

id just use dot 4 on brakes despite this manual. as said before most gear fluids have additive.

Transfer Case We recommend you use MOPAR® BW44–44 Transfer Case Fluid.

Front Axle – 1500 Four-Wheel Drive Models We recommend you use MOPAR® GL-5 Synthetic Axle Lubricant SAE 75W-85.

Rear Axle – 1500 Models We recommend you use MOPAR® Synthetic Gear Lubricant SAE 75W-140 (MS-8985). Limited-Slip Rear Axles require the addition of 5 oz. (148 ml) MOPAR® Limited Slip Additive (MS-10111).

Brake Master Cylinder We recommend you use MOPAR® DOT 3. If DOT 3 brake fluid is not available, then DOT 4 is acceptable.

Power Steering Reservoir – 2500/3500 Models We recommend you use MOPAR® Power Steering Fluid +4 or MOPAR® ATF+4® Automatic Transmission Fluid.

I use valvoline synt 75w140 rear and 70w90 front on my diffs though this last time i put Mobil 1 in the front cause i couldn't get Valvoline 70w90. I do have factory LSD and my truck runs in the dirt a lot.zero issues with Valvoline and i don't need to add aditional FM. my transfer case gets STP ATF+4 (I have the 44-45)

Easiest way is your switch inside :)
If all you have is 2WD, 4WD lock Hi, 4WD lock low - it is a 44-45

If you have 4 options - 4WD full time/AWD button (plus the above 3) - it is 44-44.

I use Redline 70-85 front and 75-110 rear, if you tow heavy, far and in a hot area 75-140 rear.

I've had the Mopar unicorn tear fluid, Amsoil SS MVATF, and Redline C+ in my 44-44. Both the C+ and MVATF definitely improved the way it shifted into and out of 4Low versus the Mopar stuff. However after some extensive research by @phoenixgenesys it looks like the SS MVATF is the better choice for the 44-44...

I used Redline 75-140 in the anti spin rear, did not add any modifier as they say it already has it and it seems to be fine, no chattering in sharp turns. in the 44-44 I used Redline C+, had a snow storm in Feb, the TC worked just fine with the Redline which is less than half the cost of the Mopar stuff.
