Before my 5.7 decided to cr@p out, I consistently got22 to 23 mpg on highway at 100 kph. As soon as I ooed on te travel trailer, the mileage dropped in half.Just out of curiosity, what is your average highway speed ?
That’s some great mileage you are getting .

I am truly puzzled because I have he lifter tick but no metal. I cut every filter with a filter cutter and use a magnetic drain plug. Cannot see any metal.
It is a frustration. No codes, no check engine light. Cod start, it behaves when cold, like you would feel from a carburetted engine with no choke. The rebuilt engine is underway although, I wonder if that will be the fix.
Thank you or the info. From my research, the oil that I use is next to mobil 1. I've been using it aong with a can of liquid moly since I bought the ruck at 56000 kilometers, it now has about 220000 kilometers. I'm suspecting a failed cam. I think these engines accumulate sludge in the oil galleries that contribute to the lifter issue . I've pulled 2 engines apart recently and both had a large build-up of sludge in the main gallery at the front of the block. The sludge build up was such that one of the main bolts tha ges through the oil gallery would not fall out. One of these engines was very clean and that sludge was not expected. You stated in an earlier post that you were using Castrol 5w/20 GTX Ultra clean.
Fwiw, why not change you oil strategy and use 5w/30 and LubeGard Biotech and see how your engine sounds, if that is of priority. What have you got to loose?
