Ram is losing the things that made it stand out from the pack to begin with. Gone is the raised hood height, gone is the crosshair grille. When the vehicle you make isn't clearly identifiable on the road it becomes a lot harder to sell.
If you'll notice, Mustangs since the 2005 restyle don't have Ford's trademark blue oval anywhere on them, and if you don't order the tape stripe package they don't say MUSTANG anywhere on the exterior either. Pony emblems and triple vertical tail lights are the only clues given by the manufacturer, but even those ignorant when it comes to automobiles know "Hey! That's a Mustang."
It is that crucial element of styling which is missing from most modern designs. It is also why manufacturers feel the need to put huge brand badges on the vehicles or, in our case, spell out R A M on the nose and tail gate. If the vehicle cannot be identified merely by its shape and styling cues the designers have done a poor job. This is what they mean when they say "Designed by committee."
