I figured since I traded in my 2006 Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT 4x4 Short Bed Hemi, that I minus well make a new build post for my 4th gen.

Long story short, I bought my 3rd gen 06 in September of this year. It was my first ever truck, obviously first ever Ram. Fast forward 3 months, $2k in mechanical fixes (before this problem) and $2k in mods. So yesterday i brought my 06 to my local dealer because my passenger low beam would not work. I read online it was probably the TIPM so I knew going in it was gonna be bad. Also I had them check why my heat wasn't blowing hot. Diagnosis? TIPM Internal Failure. Heater Core needs replacement. Quoted roughly $2,500 for repairs. So I had to think long and hard. Put $2500 into my 06 with 178k and have more major repairs down the road (it was running perfect when I bought it, almost immediately **** started breaking).

So I thought, I'll trade it in my 06 towards a "new" RAM and put the $2500 for repairs up as a down payment. I paid $8700 for my 06 in September and they gave me $8600 for trade in. Not bad for its milage and known problems (they knew about the TIPM and Heater Core.

So after my $8600 trade in and $2500 cash down I was at $11,100 towards a newer Ram. I test drove 3 Rams. 2015 Quad Cab Tradesman with 31k but it was a prior rental and had chrome bumpers (ewww). Then I drove a 2012 Regular Cab ST Express with paint matched bumpers ( :) )with 32k miles, K&N Intake, Flowmasters, Lund Tonneau, Spray In Bed liner & Bed Rails and it was fast as balls. Then I drove a 2015 Outdoorsman with 44k that was fully loaded. Black leather, projector headlights, heated/cooled seats, the works. It was too much for me though ($28k).

So I decided on the 2012 Reg. Cab. They had it priced at $19,900 and I got them down to $15,100. So after my equity ($11,100) the difference was only $4k for an almost brand new truck in pristine condition and a warranty (something I really wanted and required). I ended up adding on a 5yr/100k aftermarket warrenty as the factory bumper to bumper expired 2/17 and the Drive train warranty only covers, well, the drivetrain. So now I'm upto $6k in difference. Since they mentioned multiple times my 06 would be going straight to wholesale (auction) I told them I would ONLY do the deal if I could swap the new trucks rims for the rims on my 06 3rd gen. They agreed and I was super happy. After finance fees, title, tags, tax etc. I was looking at financing $8,100 over 4 years which turned out to be $168.75/month.

After i finished the paperwork I went to move my 06 to where the new 2012 was on the lot to transfer over my belongings and when I put the truck into D, I went to do a K turn and hit the gas but it just revved up and didn't move. I let the rpms go back to idle and then it was fine but as I put it into R to continue my K turn, the truck shut off lol. I quickly put it into park, restarted it and limped to where my new truck was. I seriously think my 06 was dieing on the spot. Poor truck, ugh... I didn't want to get rid of it. My first truck ever and even though I only owned it for under 3 months... it was love from the first test drive.

I think I made out EXTREMELY well here. No way could I both get approved for a brand new 2016/2017 nor could I afford $450- $600 a month payments.

This worked out PERFECT for me as the payments are super low, I have an almost brand new truck (only 32k miles!!) And the previous owner obviously babied this truck. There isn't a single paint chip, swirl, mark, knick... nothing. The only mods were the intake, exhaust, tonneau and bed liner sprayed in the bed and on the bed rail protectors caps.

Also, I took the custom RAM grille emblem and my 60" Tailgate bar off my old truck. Plus I have to go back Monday to get my rims+tires from my old truck.

Here is a quick picture I snapped right after the test drive.

Here's another I took after i left the dealer, and it was dark out.

very nice trade indeed. With all the problems on your older truck I would have no issues getting rid of her. There are many people out there that trade in vehicles all the time with low mileage and have never been beat on. As an example I had a 2009 Shelby GT500 with 2400 miles, 219 hand coats of polish/wax might have seen rain once so forget about it seeing snow etc. In the 3 years I owned it (paid cash) I will swear on a stack of bibles that I heard the blower whine maybe 6 times and I never ever ever spun the tires. I paid 49,500.00 and the dealer gave me black book excellent (best any dealer will do) which was approximately 36,000.00. I do believe they tried selling it for 44k but it sat, the last sale price I saw was in th high 30's. Moral of this story is someone got a peach of a ride that was never ONCE abused. Same story goes for my 2005 Mustang GT 5000 miles and minty mint, 2012 SRT8 Challenger with 7500 miles, 2010 RAM rcsb Hemi 4x4 Sport with 12,000 miles, 2014 RAM rcsb Hemi 4x4 Sport with 17,000 miles. I now have a R/T with 9000 miles so it might be time to unload another high mileage vehicle. Some people ask "what the hell is this moron doing" but hey the automotive field is where I spend my cash. I do not drink, eat out very often, go to the movies yada yada yada.

My policy in the past was 1/3 down or no new vehicle, the last 16 years it has been an even tougher policy, if not paying completely cash no new vehicle.

I truly hope this new truck treats you well, cheers and Merry Christmas.

Nothing wrong with buying used. Your 12 looks just like a 16 but costs less than half. Trucks especially depreciate super fast. I got my 14 for just north of $20k OTD. New would have been almost double.

Well I went Ebay/Amazon shopping today for the new truck.

Ordered myself a set of Black Leather Clazzio seat Covers and got custom embroidery R/T in red stitching on the headrests. Also ordered a heated seat kit from them. They are super awesome and even refunded my $524 I paid for covers for my 06 that were already in the production phase even though their site says no refunds on custom orders, somehow Tyler was awesome enough to do it. Clazzio Customer Service is top notch!!!

The Seat Covers should be here within 7 days.

Also ordered these Blacked Out Hemi Badges and RAM 1500 badges.

Thanks to Tyler at Clazzio refunding me $524 I was able to order a set of these bad boys. Just need to order a harness from JJ at Retroshop and I'll be set.

I also ordered a set of Fender Flares, Textured and Riveted. Since I got my old rims/tires on from my old truck, they stick out way more then they did on my 06 lol.

This is just the start. I got so much more in mind for this truck. R/T Front lip, Sport Hood, LED Tails etc. Can't wait!!! Just need more money first lol...

Oh yea I went back to the dealer i traded my 06 in at to get my old rims/tires put on my new 2012 Ram and they tried to **** me so bad.

They tried to rob me!!!

When I got there, the salesman who did the deal for me, trading in my 06, buying my 12, asked for my keys to the new truck. He came back 15 minutes later and said there might be a problem with TPMS sensors.

I told him not a chance. When I bought the rims 3 weeks ago, the previous owner had them on their 2013 ram and I know for a fact they have TPMS sensors in them programmed for 433mhz.

He seemed shocked that I knew exactly what I was talking about.

But still, he comes back and has the balls to tell me it's going to be $600 for new TPMS sensors..... LOL!!!!!!! Yea right buddy.... in your dreams. I told him no way that I'd live with the tire light on the dash. He said ok a d that was that.

So I get my truck back, new (old to me) rims on it and everything looks awesome. I jump in and the tire psi is still at the old tires settings. 31,33,33,34. I know it's kinda low, but I knew I was swapping the old wheels so I didn't fill them.

Anyways about 3 minutes down the road.... what do you think happens? Oh, the rims and TPMS sensors sync up and go to 40psi around the truck.

Hmmm I wonder what the $600 was for they wanted??? My guess is the salesmen's and mechanics pocket.

******* scumbag salesman and mechanics trying to rip people off. I'm not some idiot who will fall for this crap but most people will and it's not cool.

Anyways on to the pictures :)

(I know my truck is dirty and so are my wheels but it's 35 degrees right now and not ideal weather to wash a truck in)

Can't wait for my fender flares, seat covers, lights and badges!!!! They can't come quick enough!!!

Awesome on getting the headlights. You will then need to do something with the fog lights. They will stand out with everything else being blacked out. I put lamin-x on mine

Yea i plan on getting fog lights soon. I have to wait for some more money. I just dropped close to a grand between the seat covers and the lights.

Which headlights did you end up going with? Fog light suggestion since yours is a 12

Fresh detail... waiting on a ton of parts to come in. More pics once the parts start rolling in and I can put them on. It is 15 degrees outside right now so it's going to be difficult to find "warmer" days to do work on the truck. And I don't know anyone with a garage I can use either :-(

There was a chance I wasn't getting my rims back and if that was the case, my plan was to plastidip the stocks black.
