You should do manual calculations. First, fill tank to when it clicks off ( never try to squeeze more in, that is a bad thing in the world of good versus bad) and set trip odometer to 0. Drive to a tank level you feel comfortable with, closer to empty is better. Then fill again and divide miles driven by number of gallons. Repeat a couple times and add all results together and divide by the number of occurrences. This will give you a truer average.

As far as your number, that could be accurate if you drive in city, with a lead foot, tow a lot, idle a lot, carry a lot of gear, always drive with defrost or A/C on, etc. The uniqueness of each person's driving habits makes it hard to compare numbers, but your numbers could be indicating a problem somewhere. Get your manually calculated numbers and let us know, might be able to talk through things here. Good luck.

Towing? In town? Larger tires? Lead foot? Aside from that it seems pretty low to me. Both of my 1500's got around 13 in town and 18 highway but they were 100% stock, not towing and driving conservatively

Have you put enough miles on it to break it in yet ?

Once the odometer reaches a certain point, your MPG will increase

towing or drag racing it's normal. Otherwise it's not. Lead foot city driving also possible, but the lead foot would require a lot of lead.

If it's just you driving the truck around, then something sounds wrong ... or are you towing a 38 foot camper or boat or ?? all of the time. I get 20.8 mpg in the city with my 5.7L hemi ...

I work from home so fill mine every pay day (2 week) no matter what so thankfully it's usually no more than maybe $50-70 each fill up and sometimes only $20. But yeah, the most mine has ever taken has been 27 gallons. I just filled up today ($46) but only needed 12 gallons. 3.559/gallon. If I ran it to 'E' then it would cost me close to $100.
