I have a 2014 1500 with the 5.7 V8 and 8 Speed Tranny. I recently did an oil change roughly 2000 miles ago. The Temps lately have been going up. Just today on the way home the coolant was 224, transmission was 201, and oil was at 226, PSI was at 52. Those were all while driving. Also, upon parked, the oil PSI dropped to 31.
First picture is driving.
Second picture is parked.

psi is normal, trans is normal, oil is normalish if long trip like an hour or towing, coolant is a little high imo, by about ten degrees. Is it hot outside were you are? You could pressure wash radiator. They have some temperature deletes you can look into, I know the ones of the 6 speed, I don't know the ones for the 8 speed, but you can get tranny cooler as well. Lower thermostat as well 190 thermostat a good move here.

Burla, it was about 85ish out and wasn't towing, just coming home from work, probably about 20 minutes or so. Lately the coolant has been around 215 or so, it spikes at times and then drops, so I was thinking it might be the thermostat.

I was experiencing similar temps PSI 55, Coolant 215 - 219 and then will calm down below 200 degrees. Oil 224 degrees after engine warms up. Outside air around 80 degrees. Wasn't sure myself if these were acceptable temps. I do have a STANT 190 waiting to install.

Did the coolant temp stay there or come back down? Definitely in the normal range, upper end. Just monitor for now imo.

Maybe it could be a sign of a weakening or worn water pump
coolant temp on my 13 hardly exceeds 205 under normal driving
I would keep any eye on it for sure

Yeah it usually does come down, I just don't remember it fluctuating so much. It goes up to almost the oil temp and then it will calm down. I'm afraid if I go on a long trip it will over heat. I don't do a lot of commuting anymore since working from home. So truck stays in the garage during the week and then I do some weekend running around. Is it normal for the oil to get up to 224*? I figure the coolant would bring it down some what.

Figure on the oil being higher than the coolant, that's typical.

Hello, I was seeing similar temps on my 2014 v6, eight speed. When moving or idleing, the coolant temps were in the 220's. I was concerned that this was to hot for expressway driving and not towing. All that heat has to take a toll on the truck's engine and transmission. I decided to do the active grill shutter delete. As another member did, I removed all the shutters except the top and bottom ones. Now when I drive on the expressway the coolant stays around 194 F, the transmission at 187. While idle ing the coolant runs 194 to 201 F. I honestly feel this will help the longevity of the engine and transmission. The thermostat is the factory original. I respect the opinions of all who have commented I just wanted to share my experience with these changes to my truck. I hope this info will help you solve your issue.

Thanks for the input. I may do the removal of some of the active shutters and replace my TSAT in the near future. My truck is coming up on the 100K mileage (98K at the time of writing this), so I know a lot of maintenance has to be done by then anyway. I still have my original break pads with some pad still left and the spark plugs will need replacing. I am dreading the fuel filter, it also has never been changed. Lots to do this summer. But I do love the truck, even though it frustrates me some times.

You’ll be happy to know that your truck doesn’t have a fuel filter.

Does your truck still have the crank driven clutch fan? It might be starting to fail - usually it will pull enough air so that the coolant doesn't get that hot - 220 to 224 is when it will kick on the electric fan as well.

Really!! I was told I would have to pull the bed out to get to the gas tank in order to replace it. Not that I am doubting you but how does it get away from having a fuel filter?

Your fuel pump has an integrated, non-serviceable filter on it (it’s a sock). I don’t know of any modern, gas engines that have serviceable fuel filters anymore. On diesels, filters all the rage!

At ten years, it's time to replace the coolant with new Mopar coolant. Replace the thermostat when changing the coolant. Check the clutch on the fan while you're in there. I installed a 190 thermostat instead of the OEM 205. Also reset the electric fan controls to go along with the lower stat rating. The active shutters should be an issue if they are working properly. My motor temps stay around 193 and may up to 205 when towing heavy loads.

If I replace the stock TSTAT with a 190. How do Reset the electric fan controls to go along with the lower temps? I have already replaced the coolant at around 70K miles, I'm at 98K now.

AFAIK on a 2016 you need to have your ecu unlocked and a tuner to lower the fan trigger temp

Ok, who or where would I get that done at? And if I don't get that done will it be terrible if I didn't get my ecu unlocked and then tuned after replacing the TSTAT?
