i have a 2011 2500 hd with a cummins engine. pulling my 5th wheel it runs hot when i get off the interstate after a few miles. not losing water but jumps to 240. Has anyone put a electric pusher fan in front of the condenser to help with this. fan clutch seems to be working. Any ideas?

back when i had my cummins. i deleted the computer controled fan clutch. and went with a good old fan clutch. i forget the kit i got but it cooled it right down. and price is way better than a new computer controled fan clutch.

If your engine temps are getting that high then the viscous fan clutch may not be working properly. Lay down under the truck and look just to the left of the crank sensor and you will see the wiring pigtail for the fan. Make sure the wires are intact and in their metal loom and snapped in to the fan shroud. These come loose all of the time and get chopped up by the fan.

Connect a scan tool to this thing and see if any DTC's are set. How many miles are on the truck? Has the thermostat ever been replaced or the radiator flushed?

Also, adding a pusher fan in front of the condenser is only going to create an airflow restriction and it will only continue to mask the issue at hand.

I'm betting that if my laptop was connected to your truck and I commanded 100% duty cycle on the fan clutch I would find that the fan is not 100% engaged. Just a guess though.

Thanks I'll look at that. I don't have a light on. I hook the scan tool up.

What makes you say that the fan clutch "seems to be working"?
