I'm with the rest of the clan.... stop driving it ASAP or you're going to start finding all the weak points in the engine. If you do replace the TSTAT, go back with the factory spec TSTAT. There's no need to change it to a cooler one. The engine is designed to operate at the current temp.

Check everything over, find the leak, replace the bad parts with OEM, and flush/fill with the proper coolant. These trucks can be finicky when you start mixing and matching stuff.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I'm off work Thur and Fri. Maybe I'll check some stuff out then. I do have an extended warranty that covers powertrain, engine cooling, AC, brakes, etc. Hoping the part will be cover under that. Till then, guess me and the wife will play boomerang with her car and our work schedules.

OK, Sooooo, now that I have my truck back, FINALLY, I'll go over the findings. So, the dealership did a pressure test and found that the water pump was leaking. (not covered by extended warranty.) They found that the new pump was faulty, so they had to replace again with a different one. Pressure tested the system again and found a new lead on the outer edge of the head gasket. (Covered under extended warranty, except exhaust manifold hardware.) Replaced both head gaskets and did another pressure check. Now they found a leak at the freeze plug behind the timing cover. (they covered that cost saying they should have caught that) Put everything back together and pressure checked good. Now they are putting the ac system back together and found a leak at the condenser. (Covered under warranty.) Truck went in Dec 23rd and I finally got it back yesterday, Jan 10th. While they had the heads off, I had them replace all 16 spark plugs. 98k on the original ones.

ya, a very emotional one. LOL. Then you factor in Christmas holiday and New Years holiday. Glad it's all over. But super glad it happened now rather than camper towing season.
I heard that.

Mine overheated as I was going to fill up before a road trip to NC for Christmas.

We ended up taking my MIL's suv, and all caught the flu while in NC.

The $200 13-mile tow would've been alot different than a tow on the interstate somewhere in BFE.

Sucked, but a big blessing at the same time.
