According to the Ram publications, my '19 1500 with the straight 5.7 and 3.21 rear will pull a max of about 8400 pounds. I am buying a boat 4 hours away that weighs about 9k all up. I'll never tow it again except 100 feet to and from the ramp where it lives. I do that now with another 9000-pound boat and the truck could care less. 4WD LOW up the ramp and I barely even step on the gas.

How much harm is a one-time haul, driving like your Grandma, going to do to my truck? I'm talking about SLOW acceleration and limiting my top speed to 55-60 MAX. And using the shift switch to limit the trans to 6 or 7 speeds.

My only other options are to pay someone to haul it or find a 2500 to rent for the day.

Does anyone know where I could rent a 2500? Most auto rental places only have half-ton pickups.

Advice? Ridicule? Scorn? etc all welcome.

Tough call. I'm not a fan of towing heavy with a half ton, especially when your load starts to sway, and that soft half ton suspension cannot contain it. However, I see folks over-towing all the time. Go slow, check the trailer brakes, and hopefully you don't have to go too far to get it home.

It's not going to hurt the truck but the real issue is safety and liability. I towed our boat (about 9300lbs as loaded) with my 2013 1500 with 3.55s that had an 8600lb tow capacity. At the time I didn't realize it weighed that much but it towed it fine. Be 100% sure the trailer brakes are working. But remember the liability factor. I'm not going to tell you to go ahead or not go ahead but the truck can handle it power wise.

Your not going to hurt the truck take it easy and try plan low traffic and get it home make sure the brakes are good on the trailer. Just keep in the back of your head your possibly over loaded.

The Hemi will smile, the payload will frown.......but I'd do a 1 time deal.

Should be ok on payload too. I have about 700-750lbs of payload with my 9000lb boat. Boats typically have less tongue weight due to the engine being at the rear. Typically 8% TW with boats.

You'll be fine. Just start stopping here for there. With my old 1500 I've more than pushed the limits with no issues.

My buddy just picked up a 34’ travel trailer with his 2020 Limited eco diesel. Dry weight was 6900 pounds, and he said it scared the fool out of him! He could not get the sway under control, even with the WDH hitch.
I cannot stand towing heavy with a half ton, but many do it, and his eco diesel had plenty of power to move it. I told him to get a better WDH hitch or a 2500.

No opinion on hauling this but Enterprise rents up to Ford F-350's. Probably the same near you.

NO one will rent me a 3/4 or larger truck. They are all rented. Frustrating.

That would be my preference but total unavailability is what pushed me to this corner. I don't like it at all, but it's looking more and more inevitable. Thank you for scaring the crap out of me. Flat roads, low speeds will be the rule. I don't want to do it. But I don't want to wait a week or more to get my hands on this boat. Plus, ten bucks say's he'll USE the boat this weekend! HAHAHAHAH
