You can do overlanding in a motorcycle if you wanted. you don't need a Diesel truck, or Hemi or the biggest offroad trailer you can find. Overlanding is all about your journey to a remote destination.
Can you overland a Rebel 1500 ? better question is what are you looking at to to have in your travel to that remote destination ? are you thinking to offroad, are you thinking to use developed or primitive camping spots? how many people will stay with you ? A pickup truck was the main reason i wanted a bigger vehicle to enjoy the outdoors, i come from a Jeep Wrangler unlimited. Sure i can't rock crawl with the RAM like i did with the Jeep but i can pack the RAM full of a lot more stuff than i did in the Jeep, carry a family of 5 with more comfort for everybody without being cramped inside the vehicle and i can move that cargo and family longer without refueling and with a lot more ease than what my 4.56 geared JKU ever did. Also i'm not affraid of offroad dents, scratches and pin stripes and definetly don't need 4-6" lift to offroad AEV or not.
I don't have an RTT and i'm still debating if we want one or not, wife had ACL reconstruction surgery couple of years ago and while she can walk and run just fine now days she doesn't feel comfortable having to climb a ladder up and down in the middle of the nowhere especially at night so we're still using a tent, and i have more space in a 14x14 easy tent than any RTT setup.
Plus i can sleep in the truck bed if i'm by myself without having to set anything up other than a little inflatable bed.

Your suspension setup can make the trips more enjoyable especially when it comes to offroading and sure you can take your Rebel 1500 crew cab truck to remote places, don't let the magazine overlanders tell you otherwise
