I have a 2016 Ram 2500,6.4, 4x4. I was building a rear bumper for it and removed the stock chrome bumper. I disconnected the trailer connecter and snipped the wires to the plate lights. During the build I needed to drive the truck. When started everything seemed normal until I put it drive and pulled away, the engine began to buck, rev then die. I could restart the idle seem fine, I could rev up, but seem like the engine would die. I could keep it running with accelerator peddle, but it wanted to quit. Made it back home....OK . So code reader shows me this code. Truck has 28,000 miles, very well maintained and after reading forum reactions ( and very, very many from different forums) I could'nt belive that any of the answers I read fit my problem. My scanner is a very top line product and showed everything was working just fine. I run a Flowmaster catback exhaust with Supertrapp tips for back pressure, So I was wondering if it was effecting the cats.? I wanted to finish the bumper and then I would work on the code problem. Well after reading all the CODE P0300 problems on the Forums,I was feeling pretty low trying to track this down. Anyway I connected the license plate lights (and the trailer connector, which I don't belive effected the code) The truck runs beautiful!!! After all the Forum readings I had read, this situation had never been brought up. So hopefully this can help some folks out. P0300 can be a PITA.

I have not done that on vehicles since before 1970 Chargers were NEW

If it has a computer, CPU in it, its best to know what you are doing

Random cut wires? I had said "SNIPPED THE PLATE LIGHTS"(license plate lights). I agree DON'T randomly cut wires. As for the Trapps... 16 discs each side.

P0300 is a random misfire detected, which matches the symptoms noted. There are codes P0301 - P0308 which would pinpoint misfires of the specific #1 through #8 cylinders that don't always pop up.
I never would have guessed disconnecting the trailer plug or license plate light would have anything to do with those symptoms or codes. The only thing I would even guess is that for some reason you had low battery voltage which could cause that type of issue???

You didn't just snip that wire, but every wire on that circuit, and you shorted them, snip one they all fail. I'm surprised there isn't more codes, or a more specific code. I had a shop do something similar once back in the day, burned out three transfer case motors til they figured it out. They put a new t case in, I'd engage, boom short wasn't fixed. Dealer figured it out I had to sue the shop. Simple installation of a step that drilled through a wire led to a whole lot of pain.
