dime to donuts your cam lob #1 is wiped, kinda of amazing it lasted that long. stick around forum to learn about lubrication strategies and info on cam swaps. Keep running codes, see if anymore appear.

Thank you for your reply. I did the key turn sequence that reveals any codes and p301 came up and now p305 came up. If that is the problem what needs to be replaced? Any idea how much I'm looking at for this problem? I am going to be bringing my truck to the shop what should I look for step by step to diagnose this problem?

I believe they will have to pull heads or valve covers to see if those cylinders are lifting. Pricing like 5-10 years ago was as low as 3800 bucks at an independent, i would wager 5k would be the lowest price up to as high as 8-9k at a shop non dealer, at dealer maybe as high as 12k. That would be a wiped cam lob, gotta remove it, no small job. Will likely have to do lifters as well. I'd go somewhere established with a warranty.

Well first of all it isnt just a lifter job, it is a lifter and cam job, and to take the cam out you need to remove the front end pretty much. I'd say it is as difficult as a transmission swap, maybe even more if you are not considering the weight. The cam lob spins and hits bottom of lifters, when the cam is worn to nub, the lifters do not lift and thus the CEL code for misfire appears. This usually happens slowly overtime, but with an engine that ticked as long as yours, I'd say 99% sure this is exactly what happened to your cam, especially if no other codes were thrown. I'd call every single independent in my area and price it out if it were me. I might even try dyi to be honest, but unless your are down with all that, paying for it is all you can do. Or trade it while it still runs, even with a code you can still get some money for it if it is at least running.

I have a 2011 ram 1500 5.7 and I’ve had my truck for about 3 years never had anything wrong with it. So about 1 year ago I changed the spark plugs and gaped them and also put new coils in. Even thought there was nothing wrong with the factory ones I took out. So for the past two days I been going and coming for work drive about 100 miles per day for the last month. For my new job. And I’ve noticed that my truck is not accelerating right it starts to bog out the faster I go on the freeway... so I took it to autozone down the street from my house and it says p0301 cylinder 1 misfires and it says it’s the spark plug or the coil... too many misfire detected. That it might be the 1 coil... and he says that I have to buy a new coil to see if it will fix the problem... BUT HE SAID MIGHT... or it can be a blown cylinder... so I went home and disconnected the coil and took out spark plugs and everything seem fine. I used a little wire brush to clean the little bit of debris. I put everything back together thinking that a connection or the coil might be loose... and I test drove it and same ****... still fills the same

This is my #1 Intake lobe. Whatever you're describing sounds exactly like mine, hate to say it. The kit cost 450 ish and it takes about 16 hours of labor.

Has anyone(I'm sure there has been maybe) had a cam lifter go bad without any hemi tick. Lack of ticking leads me to put my money on broken valve spring also. Can't wait to find out. I don't do so well at the casino so i may be wrong.
My number one intake lobe was rounded off. Never a noise.
