I have a 2015 Ram 1500 with 68000 mile. When my fuel tank gets below 1/2 a tank, the check engine light comes on. The code is P0463 - fuel level sensor circuit high. The vehicle runs fine and when I refill the tank the check engine light goes away. I had the dealer check it out and they want $500 to replace the sensor, but I can't justify that if the vehicle runs OK. Has anyone else come across this problem? Is there a cheaper fix?? Thanks,

My 14 has done the same thing since it was new. When it gets down to 115 miles to empty on the Evic the check engine light for fuel level sensor circuit high, comes on like clock work.Truck now has 40,000 miles on it,and it's never affected the way it runs. It's never really bothered me,lol

This code comes in yet your fuel level gauge seems to behave normally?

Never paid much attention to the gauge as I usually just keep an eye on the milege to empty down in the corner of the evic.I have enough gauges in mine with the 3 aftermarket gauges in the pillar,i don't normally watch the fuel level gauge, plus I always have the evic set to engine/tranny temperatures and oil pressure,so between everything, the full level gauge doesn't get watched all that much, lol

The only thing that bothers me about it is the truck shuts off when it remote start it. Apparently it will not run with the check engine light on..

I've ran into that ,but very seldom do I use the remote start on mine.I grew up in a farming community and had it drilled into me to pull the dipstick every morning before I start it.My dad was a fanatic about checking oil /tires,or for leaks on the ground under a vehicle etc, before starting it,and i'm not much better, lol

Min has started doing this at 3/4 tank and will shut off before I get to half a tank. Other than the remote start issue and MDS is off when the light is on I dont care. Im going to run some old school Techron in the tank to see if it does what it claims on the bottle.

I have a 2016 RAM 1500 with 15,600 mi. , remote start. Today leaving work for lunch she started remotely as usual. Jump in and head down the highway and check engine light comes on. Everything looked fine gauge wise and I had almost half a tank.
As soon as I got home for lunch I pulled out my OBD reader and it pulled up two P0463 Fuel Sensor High codes. One code cleared, the other indicated 'Permanent'. The check engine light wouldn't go away, so I disconnected the reader and had lunch.
After lunch, remote started fine, jumped in the truck, and no dummy light.
I need to take the truck in to address a couple of recalls anyways, so I think I'll address it while it's under warranty.

I’m in the same p0463 dtc club, mine popped last week on my way to the gym, though I had pumped a fuel tank the day before, 2014 RAM 1500CC with 63k miles.

I called the dealer to find out if this was still covered under the powertrain warranty, they said no, and was going to cost me $1200 to get it fixed, lol, the part is like $120.

I ended up disabling the DTC code in the tune, and I won’t bother with it for a while until I decide what to do, this is not an emission thing, but for sure I wouldn’t pass smog here in the Socialist Republik of Komifornia if that stupid code was showing up in the cluster, plus the brake locking differential system won’t work if there is a code, I value my traction system as I do a lot offroad, I wouldn’t go to far without the BLD even though I have the factory LSD in the back, so far the gauge seems to be working ok, I’m about half tank, and still can drive another 100 miles before I need to refuel, don’t know how inaccurate the needle is yet, but I’ll find out this week.

I finally took it to the dealer to get it fixed. It was the sensor and the quote was $500. Luckily I had purchased an extended warranty and it only cost me the $100 deductible. I've seen enough posts about the sensor failing that i would hope that eventually this would be covered under a recall...

My 2014 has been doing this also. Does not effect the fuel gauge at all but I loose the econ mode for econ mode. Reset it and it runs fine for about another 1-2,000 miles then have to go through it again.

Its a 115 part, takes about 45 minutes to swap out.
