got this code just now as well as two weeks ago. i reset it both times. each time i got the code it was colder than usual out and i used my remote start function...?

it states 'no ccd/j1850 message from tcm/pcm'

any thoughts or suggestions? It still runs fine. Maybe the remote start is tripping something in the computer?

from a quick search it is linked to trouble starting, so yes, i would say it is linked to your remote start. likely the computer thinks something is wrong b/c of it.

edit,
further reading says there isnt a signal to the gauges.

maybe try the remote start while you are in the truck and see if anything different happens.

Did this ever get resolved? I am having the same fault code, and basically the same situation (have an alarm/remote start installed).

just posted a thread on this yesterday. disconnect your battery for 10 minutes or so and it should get rid of the check engine light

I have a 02 1500 with a 4.7l and it give me a P1698 and no gauges. Looking for a cure. Could this be coming from transmission module? Am getting frustrated with this and it has got me a couple of tickets. Desperately need a cure.

2002 2500 5.9 cummins..I had a P1698 code and went all through checking everything mentioned to no avail. then by chance I disconnected the right side battery and the code went away. That battery was apparently weak enough to freakout the computer. New batteries installed and end of fault code and lit "check engine" light

This is why so people on the forum keep repeating to have batteries load tested, weak batteries can cause at lot of problems...
