I am thinking of ordering a new 2018 and am decid8ng whether I want chrome bumpers or the body color bumpers. My current Ram has the white sport package and seems to pick up paint chips pretty easily, even in 100% on road use.
I'm interested whether other people have found the paint or chrome bumpers to be better in terms of chip resistance.
Thanks for your help.

I have a 19 sport and have had three 4th gen bighorns all with chrome. The bumpers held up great but had some rock chips/dents in the plastic chrome grill as for my 19 I have had 1 chip in the paimted front bumper so far. Had a place quote clear paint chip film on bumper, grill and strip on the hood for $1100.00

I am having the same issues with my 19 limited. 900 miles and I have about 9 paint chips on my front bumpers. Definitely not happy with the durability of the paint.

I think I'm the black sheep here but have had 2 sports for a combined 70,000+ miles in all sorts of driving conditions and weather and have never had a rock chip in the painted bumper, although I have had a few on the lower part of the hood.

I agree the old sports had the plastic painted bumpers the steel painted ones chip at the sight of a rock!

After owning 2 Sports models and having PPF installed on the front of both, IMHO it is the only way to reduce normal rock chips that you will get. It ain't cheap, but it's cheaper than having the front end repainted a couple of times during the time you own the truck. Most of the quality PPF is self healing and will not yellow.

^^ This. My 4th gen 1500 sport held up very well with the plastic painted bumper cover. When I switched over to a 4th gen one ton with the painted steel bumper, I noticed how easily it chipped. I have chrome on my 5th gen now and haven't had any rock chips yet. The rear fender flares tho.....
