I was rear ended in my 2014 sport. The guy I had estimate my damage included the 4 sensors in the rear. The insurance approved everything he said. Well my sensors still work so I told the body shop guy to wait on getting them because I wanted to find out if it would void my warranty to have him install it. So I just got back from vacation and he calls me and says the total and it included the sensors which are 1300 bucks. So I asked him if they went ahead and installed them and he says yea. So I called my dealer (4 hrs away) and they said that it would void it unless they order and install. The guy that did the body work is an old family friend. So I'm in a bind, can he return the ones he purchased to ram? I don't want him to eat the cost but I told him not to order them when I dropped my truck off.

I highly doubt he will be able to return them, especially if he bought them from a dealer. Most dealers, and parts stores for that fact have a pretty strict no return policy on electrical components.

That's what my dealer was telling me. So would I be in the wrong for making him put my old ones back on and have him eat the cost? He has a brand new bed and bumper but the guy he bought it from took the sensors out. That's why I'm thinking he went ahead and ordered mine so he could put my old ones in it. Cause he mentioned giving me a 100 bucks for mine but I was thinking that's a ripoff if they cost 1300 new

If you told him not to to put them in then I would make him eat the cost.

why not just keep the sensors but swap back to the old ones. let insurance pay the man and be done with it.

I would think the only way they can void the warranty is if they can prove it was installed incorrectly.

they can't void the warranty over some sensors unless they can prove they are the cause of any future issues. that's like saying changing your headlight bulb yourself will void the warranty or even changing your own oil

Besides, isn't that a bit much for four sensors? I recently needed to replace one on my 2010 and it was around $130 or so...
