Hello All!

The passenger air vent in my truck has never set flush in the dash. It's odd, I've tried pressing on it to see if it just wasn't seated properly, but it doesn't seem to want to sit flush.

Is there something I'm missing here? lol

Searched for a how to online to remove / reinstall the entire unit but nothing pops up. :D

Thank You all in advance.

Tried pulling it out but it seemed like it was stuck. Didn't want to force it and risk breaking something. But if it's designed just to pull out, I'll just take the chance.

If you have any plastic swedges or auto trim removal tools you can avoid damage to the soft plastic. Maybe try prying from the bottom first (even though the top looks easier)?

When you push on it, does it push flush and fall back out, or just not budge at all? If the latter, it probably just needs a real good shove. I wouldn’t worry about breaking anything, nothings going to be brittle on a 6 year old truck.

I can't tell from the pix, is that vent between the glove compartment & the passenger door ?

If it is, you may access that vent from the end piece of the dash, or by removing the glove compartment

If you want to remove the end piece, buy some Plastic Trim tool or tools, at Harbor Freight, Home Depot, or any auto parts store.
I use mine a lot

It pushes flush and then falls back out. It's the only one in the truck that is like this.

That would be the vent in question! I'm going to have to invest in a set. :)

They are worth it. Very useful to quickly pry stuff off without damage. @GTyankee has a good point actually. When you open the passenger door you gain access to the end of the dash in that section. There is a panel end cap you can pop off there which might let you see what's going on behind it and/or push it out from behind too.

I would think some tabs are broken?
I have never taken one out myself.
If you can get at the back, hot glue gun will fix a lot of stuff, that you can't see.
But if you need it out sometime, that could be a problem

If you can get into the drivers side as well, them you could see what the difference is.

I don't know for sure, but ..
in the 3 rd Generation Rams
the dash vents were placed in by placing the upper part in first & pushing upwards, then you pushed in the bottom.

Hopefully it is still done the same way

Nope, just snaps all the way around.

Unless you can get at it by popping the side panel off the dash (which I don’t recall if you can or not off the top of my head), to fix it properly you’d have to pull the entire dash pad which is a lot of work. I’d stick a few dabs of silicone or something in the gap as carefully as possible l, and lean something against it to hold it in place for a few hours.

I've seen this before.

If you try to engage the dash panel by cocking the vent assembly as you insert it, ie: starting with the lower or upper first, it may not align properly with the vent tube coming from the heater housing. What may happen is the foam gasket around the vent assembly is hitting one edge of the tube which is why it won't go in any further.

The vent assembly should align during the insertion process so that the foam gasket fits completely inside the vent tube. Remove the vent assembly and look for bent or partial crushed edge of the vent tube.
