I am looking at Amazon right now for redline. Do you use the 5w20 in the red 1 gallon jug? When I click on it it asks what vehicle I have, when I enter my vehicle info it says not for your vehicle? As for the royal purple filter what is the part number for a 2012 ram bighorn 5.7?

5W-20 or the Prefered 5w-30 Redline oil.
And the RP 10-48 or the larger RP 20-820 Filter .
Here are pics of the Gal. & qts .

For the time being, yes. The truck is at the dealer right now getting broken manifold bolts replaced. Down the road, those manifolds will give way to headers.
Once my summer travel eases up, the goal is to put a corsa exhaust on the truck. I had previously installed a Carven Progressive, but the drone was too much to handle on long trips.

Lubegard biotech

Looking into this.
Also, thoughts on Liquid-Moly? One or the other, both?
Just trying to get the shorthand version of the wealth of knowledge out there for our Hemi's and what they need oil-wise.

I prefer the oil soluble moly technology in lubegard's biotech, as opposed to powdered moly in suspension like liqui moly.

Thanks, now to see if i can find some in a local store. You'd think with all the car stuff in "Race City" someone would carry it. if not, me and Amazon are on a first name basis...
What is the preferred dosage. I'm guessing its by L.

I would say 15 ounces for the hemi, it comes in 10, 15, and 32. I think the 32 is a little much because of the phos levels. You want phos- every oil has it, but you don't want huge phos levels. But even if huge phos levels is what it takes to silence a ticking hemi, well worth it. Too much phosphorus you can in theory gum up catalytic converters. Although this is more hype then reality, it is in theory possible. Small expense if it actually happens, Cats are usually between 50 and 100 bucks on a ram.

What is the benefits of using 5W-30 over 5w20? I know I read somewhere 5w20 is what you should run with mds or you can have problems, any truth to that?

Most guys (me included) in oil thread are running 5w30 with no issues, some guys even are closer to 40 weight. The benefit is more film strength. I'm in the middle of a 7 year test to see if it actually translates to better wear numbers, but we don't have that answer yet. 5w20 is acceptable, if you feel comfortable running that, so far the data backs that up and a reasonable thing to do.

Thanks for info I am going to order some redline 5w20 and RP 20-820 filter for my next change. I just changed my oil so going to run it for awhile before making the change. Any difference between RP 10-48 and 20-820? I see people running both.

My next oil change I will be running 5w20 redline again with a 20-820. PM H395 he knows that answer for sure, I forget because I just use what my application says. I don't want to give you mis-information, but I'm pretty sure you can use either.

Dealership called, they found the broken bolts (like I had any doubt the bolts were broken) and are repairing under warranty. Sad part is that I dropped it off yesterday hoping to give them plenty of time to get the job done by the end of today and that probably won't happen.

Glad it was the bolts, when it comes to hemi tick that is like hitting the lotto. Hopefully the OP badger has the same luck.

Did the dealership upgrade your broken bolts with new upgraded Bolts?

If not?
You will probably be doing this again in a very short time.

If you are in a position try to ask these fellas what exactly is causing this issue.

I removed that very restrictive tank they call a muffler at very early age within the first 300 miles on the engine.
Service manager told me to create a very free flowing exhaust to get those hot exhaust gases away from the manifold as quick as possible.
I installed a 14" (Straight Through) design to help even more with those hot escaping exhaust.

I do understand I'm not totally ignorant to the situation my 5.7L is still very young in life with only 25K miles on Mr. VooDoo!
If still in my possession @ the 40K mile mark I will really begin to pay attention to this.

Just run the 30wt oil ....I've ran a 40wt and had ZERO issues with the MDS system ! ! !

20 wt is 100% C.A.F.A. ,just the govt screwing with oil to burn .03 % less per mpg , while you are increasing the wear on your engines internal components ...then you spend many $ $ $ on a big repair or you purchase a new vehicle ...and the govt wins again in multiple ways TAX Wise ...

Just run a quality 30 wt oil & quality filter .
For any 5.7L Hemi I'd recommend a 30wt with a minimum of :
475 ppm of molybdenum

So here is the run down. I took mine in for what I thought was 1-2 broken bolts on passenger side. That was the ticking side. When I picked up the truck today (I will eat my earlier words, they got it done in one day) they had replaced both manifolds for being warped and there were 3 broken bolts on the left side and 2 on the right.
No indication was offered as to what is causing this. I am only at 50ish thousand miles, so plenty of time to take it in again and have the work redone if needed.
One of the bolts had to be subbed out to a mobile machine shop because the usual Chrysler Techs couldn't get it out.
I will give them props for getting it done and being very polite about it all.

Dropped truck off at my local shop today. They replaced passenger side manifold gasket and hardware and seems to have solved the problem. Costed me $291 which I didn't think was too bad compared to what I read others had paid.
