Now that the stop/start stuff is no longer required by EPA I’m surprised they are bringing the E-torque back too. Yes, I understand it does more than stop/start but hundreds of thousands of Hemis were built without it and ran just fine.

What is different about the hemi to need a pilot run?

EDIT: Here you go...

So why pilot builds? Even though the HEMI and eTorque combo isn’t new, the 2026 Ram 1500 rides on a refreshed platform with a brand-new Atlantis electrical architecture. These pilot units help engineers identify any issues with software, electronics, or drivetrain integration before full-scale production begins.

The epa never required start/stop to begin with (the head of epa seems to still be in the early learning stages of his new job), they only give credits for vehicles equipped with it. That’s what they would be doing away with, which they actually haven’t done yet (only a post on X talking about it).

Even if they do away with credits for the start/stop system specifically, vehicle manufacturers STILL won’t stop using it, because it DOES still affect the overall fuel mileage credits.

Pilot builds down the assembly line are more for checking any build issues as it goes down the line. All the manufacturers have hand-built up test versions of the vehicles for a lot of the R&D before the line built ones. Any of these builds never see the light of day outside of the testing facilities

When you move molds or machinery from one facilitate to another, or if shut down for a period, they always run pilot builds.
