That is a crazy 'rule' and kind of pointless if you think about it. There's more scorching hot components closer to the gas hole on the vehicle being fueled than any risk the heater box exhausts are on the camper in tow.

Propane always off when traveling for us. But we had a slide in camper so just seemed risky. And a 3 way fridge so could use 12V while driving. If I was pulling a trailer I probably wouldn't worry about it.
