Let the designing begin............

Basement before I start building my shop...

And after:

Basement_shop_zps4e88b7cf.jpg

So, my plan is to have a hugeass work area. 4" deep bench (might go to 3", not sure....but yeah). Almost 17ft of area........I'll have the oven under the bench there, so bake and go! Full storage for parts and stuff behind me, and on the wall. There is an existing workbench on the other side of the wall (steps) and that will be used as my packing area. Keeps things nice and separated. More storage by the packing area. Never have too much.........

And, putting in a small bathroom, need a place to **** ya know. "pantry" next to it, something to keep some extra chips, condiments, etc. And.......fill the "voids" in the wall there with even more storage for the wife and kiddos. Still leaves a LOT of room down here (working with almost 1800 sq ft!)

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Media?

Nah........the house has a living room upstairs for the kiddos, and one on the main floor for the wife and I. I want to leave the basement for work and storage. ;)

Ah. Well it might do well to upgrade the lighting in your work area. You could put a shelf above the bench, then run some led strip lights under the shelf to light up the bench.

So your building a house, and the basement will be your shop? Or your building a shop with a basement?

We bought a new house, moving in about a month - this is my plan on the shop.

I've always done my work out of my house. No need to have the overhead of another location - its not like there is a huge market in STL for this that I'd be doing installs......so, this works great for me.

I don't know, looks like you need more workspace. Probably look at a bigger house then the one you're going for now.

Kidding, looks like a great setup, only practical question is, how easy is it going to be moving supplies and finished parts up and down the stairs?

LOL

The new house is 3100 sq ft........not counting the basement. I think we'll be good! LOL

Honestly, a LOT of what we looked at for a new house, I wanted a walk out basement that I could pull the truck up to to load. 1 house had that......it was a ******** though. Nah. Bigger space? Hell........I've got another 16 ft between my "end" now to the bathroom we are putting in. MORE ROOM! LOL

I've been moving parts up and down stairs for 3 years now. Its nothing new. It doesn't bother me. Exersize......lol

Put it into perspective.......Fridays I open lights. In our current home, that means travelling the length of our basement, up the stairs, over to the kitchen (oven) and then back down. Here - the oven is right there under the workbench.

Last Friday I climbed my steps 32 times. ;) Yes, it was tracked........on my fitbit :D

At the end of the day, I know there are some better solutions to any idea - but the rest of this house fit the needs of the family, and gave me 1800 sq ft to work with in the basement. I'm ok with that, and the loading / unloading....its all good.

I will have a computer on the workbench, like I do now. Then.......into some speakers. Though, I want to get some better ones than the ****** ones I use now.

Does kicker make something that I could mount in the area? Something like a "surround sound" setup type deal? Gotta jam out when I'm workin'! :leghump:

build a legit ventilated paint booth? the vents can lead out the small window on the basement walls and therefor you can control your painting environment, and keep the fumes out of the house and away from the kids. if you really want to yo can bury a large pip under the ground that the fumes can dump out at the edge of your property and way away from the house

EDIT: it doesn't have to be large... you aren't painting cars...
