That's what they told me and it's a shop I've been going to for years but they got a new guy and no one has gave me a exact answer

Time to go a new shop. Or do the system yourself if you have any mechanical skills n tools. Most systems have clamps and a few bolts. DIY n save a lot of money

Sounds like you need to find another exhaust guy.

The only thing I can think of is that he is claiming that there won't be enough back pressure once he replaces the Y pipe.

Putting in a new muffler or Y-Pipe can lessen pressure on the system and open it up a bit. That's not a bad thing.

Just my .02.

Yea, that would be my guess too...
If you get a better Y pipe than that ****, and so long as you don't go straight exhausts (no mufflers) or anything equally ridiculous for a street vehicle, there shouldn't be an issue. Your ECU should be able to read it and compensate for a better flowing exhaust.
