If you haven't already compare the rear axle ratio to your previous truck. Also did your previous Ram have a sway bar or set of sway bars? Makes a big difference.

In terms of mileage guessing the Etorque is the difference but that's a guess. Tire size could also be a factor.

This is just one of the reasons that caused me to dump my 2020 1500 Laramie in favor of a 2021 2500 Cummins to tow my travel trailer. My trailer is about 6,000lbs and the gas 1500 really struggled with it in terms of gas mileage. I was getting between 7-8 mpg and with the 2500 I am getting nearly 15mpg.

I have a 21’ Classic, 5.7L 8 speed, 3.92 gears, factory 20” size Toyo Open Country AT3’s factory suspension, bed cover, and do mostly city driving to and from work, 8km each way, and I am seeing no better than 10-12mpg (according to the dash)

Yesterday I reset the mpg and it went to 5mpg!!!

Only time I see above 15mpg is straight highway driving and it’s between 20mpg and 15mpg.

I guess these V8 engines just suck at fuel economy, not shocking really but definitely disappointing, sticker shows around 17mpg average mixed driving, I have never seen that ONCE with mixed city/hwy driving, that’s a fantasy. 10mpg average, for a new vehicle, in 2021 … weren’t we supposed to have flying cars by now? ‍♂️♂️

window sticker says 17 city and 22 Hwy. mpg. Any class actions suits for this ? Dealer told me it needs to break in 5000 miles, sounds like BS to me ? Salesmans puff to blow me off. Im still only getting 15 to 16 combined.

Another consideration: fuel quality. I get better mpg using 91 octane while towing than the 87. Enough that it offsets the price/gal difference.
This is a 17 1500 crew limited 4x4 3.92s at max payload towing a 6000# TT in WI, (hilly 2 lane). I avg 9-11 towing and 19-21 empty. I run 87 octane when empty. We never tow over 65 on the 4lane an 58 or so on the 2 lane. Tires and tire pressures can make a noticeable difference in mileage as well. I’ve got GY Endurance load C on the TT and the factory GY on the truck.

When these EPA numbers are calculated they are done during ideal conditions on flat ground, not real world conditions so they will never match up perfectly. Figure 1-2 MPG lower than the window sticker usually.

Any alcohol in fuel will drop your best number. Before they started shafting us the difference in price for regular unleaded with no alcohol was $.10 a gallon, then they started charging darn near $.40 a gallon more, sometimes higher. I could always justify the $.10-.15 difference in my cars because the mileage was so much better. These are the times we live. The drop off from 10-15% alcohol is neglible though and that fuel (e-15) is sometimes Significantly cheaper at the pump. I have had good luck with these blends and have experimented with higher ratios as well. I have some experience running dirt car on e-85 for the performance/cost. Just don’t use ethanol in small engine, at least run them dry with a little regular behind it with stabil when storing.

I created a different thread regarding the bad gas mileage while towing. My truck is a 2022 Laramie 4x4 5.7 e-torque, with 3.92 gearing. At this point I have about 900 miles on the truck. I did a 500 mile tow last weekend pulling my 3500 Sol Horizon travel trailer, with a 225lb Honda Monkey in the bed. I averaged 10.2 mpg over both ways. I just filled up yesterday and did a relaxed empty ride through the country on 55mph flat back roads, and I was able to average about 19mpg there.

Needless to say, I was shocked at how bad the MPG is when towing. My previous truck was a 2019 Platinum F150 with 3.5EB and 4x4 but higher gearing (numerically lower) and I could get around 14mpg towing, and had lifetime of mostly city driving at around 17mpg.

You'll never get EPA ratings unless you live in Florida where it's flat and drive like grandpa. There are so many factors involved in getting rated fuel economy. Terrain is the biggest. Then driving style. Weight of the truck/passengers/cargo. Tires and how they are inflated.

Sticker on a regular cab 1500 tradesman and 1500 crew cab Limited both show 17/22. Guess which one is more likely to get it.

The 17/22 rating is just an average based on many factors. You and your truck may come in above or below.

I typically get about 2 MPG less than the window sticker says. Those numbers are derived from optimal conditions like weather, terrain, etc. In other words, conditions most vehicles will never see
