Hello everyone, another purchase question thread here!

Been away from Rams for a few years, I previously owned a 3rd gen hemi but it was a 2500. Now I'm looking at getting back into one but this time it's a 14 4th gen Hemi.

The ram in question is a 2014 Express Quad Cab, they want around 20k for it with 75k miles. Having virtually no experience with the 4th gens I'm open to all opinions concerning them. With mileage like that would I be coming up on anything maintenance-wise that's going to put me out of pocket right away? What kind of longevity are folks seeing out of things like steering components and suspension? Wheel hubs etc. I know on my 06 2500 it was plagued with steering issues from the moment I got it.

Any and all opinions welcome! Thanks in advance!

I'm already looking at getting one, the one in particular I posted about. Trying to get opinions about 4th gens based on the mileage and year of the truck I posted about.

$20K seems a bit for a 5 yr old Express with 75k. Is it 4x4? If you can find an '18 they are heavily discounted. I'd stretch the budget a bit, and buy new. I recently bought new, but searched a long time. 2018s are discounted anywhere from $10K --> $16K off sticker.

All depends on what the truck looks like and where you are at. My 2014 express blue books for 22-26k with 39,000 miles.

Valuation isn't really my major concern, mostly looking for 4th gen owners in the 75-100k+ mile range to chime in on potential issues that I should be on the lookout for if I go ahead and get this truck.

I get that you are looking to hear about longevity issues at that mileage, but I agree with the others regarding the price being too high.

I picked up my brand new '17 crew cab Lonestar edition in February of this year for $28k.

To answer op question.

Not many real issues, the exhaust manifold studs and leaking 3rd tail light.

I had a 14 hemi and now a 17 ecod

Obviously different parts of the country have significant different prices. Just saw this highly modifed 2014 with 144k miles for $22k.b9cf27ee429664e51e69f1d75fd577ec.jpg

I shopped for two months using cargurus to gauge my local market. In the end a few slipped by mainly laramie and ecodiesels but I'm very happy with my 16 3.6 cc. I was able to get it at 45% Off sticker. Car gurus gives you price drops and how long the truck has advertised. They also give amount above or below current prices in their ad inventory. I originally had my truck on my B list but stopped and looked in person on a whim. They dropped the price by 3k and bought it that day. Total dropped from original list to sale price was $6k. They were ready to sell and the salesman made a few hundred bucks rather than nothing.

Also upgrades add zero to the price of the truck. Dealers don't pay during trade in. So you shouldn't either. Best bet to get down to the lowest price is pay Max of only $1k over trade in. Makes life easier when negotiating. Tell dealer he's making $1k because you know he only paid so much for the trade. Take it or leave it. I had a few dealers tell me that they rather wait it out because they just listed. A week goes by and they are calling me back. When I tell them I bought another truck they understand I wasn't bsing. They were just waiting for a bigger fish. Sometime it works for them.

I picked up a 2010 1500 ST, RCSB w/cap, 2wd, a month ago, 80,000mi, but a 4.7, not a hemi, for 10 grand, and I searched Cargurus and TruCar for several months before I decided on what fit the bill for me.

I had a couple issues that needed attention right away. Previous owner had a couple open recalls that needed to be taken care of, and he obviously never used the parking brake, because it was rusted to the casing, and there was an aftermarket remote start that was installed incorrectly, and it was shorting out some of the stock accessories. Once I had the local Dodge dealer take care of the problems, the truck runs fine now.

My suggestion to you would be shop around. Check your local papers and lots, but also the above mentioned sites. You may have to travel a bit to find the right truck.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. I'm in Maryland and it does seem that all the rams in this area and even in VA go for 20k+ under 100k miles. This is of course with the 5.7 hemi and 4wd, which is what I'm looking for.

If I could swing any more money like 25-26k I would definitely be looking into the newer rams but my budget is set right around 20-21k. So it's going to be a higher mileage vehicle regardless.

Only asking for folks to chime in because I remember how terrible my 06 2500 was from the moment I brought it home haha. The engine never gave me issues but the rest of the truck around it seemed intent on doing itself in as quick as possible.

It took me about 3 months of looking through CarGuru & CarFax
I was looking in the 16/K to 20/K spend.
Was finding the 80/K miles to 130/k miles were runnng the same price.
