When truck shopping last week, I just could not justify the cost to upgrade up to a package with the 430N or the 700 series radio, and I have had dash mounted Garmins and feel they are a great unit (Zumo 450 previously), but tonight I went and bought a 2595 Garmin with BlueTooth.

That being said, are there any other good places around the dash to add an power accessory plug? With only two power outlets (I have no idea whey they put them so low on the dash, just like our 2010 Journey, and the second on the floor in the rear seats), you are just limited to where you can put the unit. Pretty much up on the lower LH part of the windshield (routing the wire under the dash, and under the radio dash to the plug in the center next to the cup holders) or right in the center of the dash above the radio (which isnt great due to the dash not being flat for a friction mount).

Any good ideas on where to rob power from so that I can keep the wires as hidden as possible?

I have a garmin in my truck. It mounted right above the 3 1/2 then my wire runs down between the air vent and cluster then be hided panel under the column to a lighter plug I had from my wrecked jeep you can get one from a parts store. I then wired that plug to the one on the drives side plug so it would cut off with my truck. A lot of people think its a tuner there. All you can see is a foot of wire you could run it thou the speaker grill but I did want to cut into it.

I was also going to say to put it somewhere near your a-pillar/upper window trim, then run the wire down behind the dash so you can use an extra lighter adapter, and grab power from wherever. DON'T cut the Garmin cord and try wiring it directly; many devices these days have a mini fuse and/or resistor built into the power plug, and won't function without it. Just buy an extra female power plug, and get power to THAT.
