I thought I would post some definitive information concerning upgrading from manual base model seats to power seats.
I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Express with base model seats. The foam in the cushions are not very supportive and at 80K the fabric was beginning to wear and were pretty dirty.
The cost to reupholster was ridiculous and the leather seats have much better foam in them.
I searched many places for seats that would work. EBay is ridiculous. I found a website CAR-PART.COM and found Grade A power drivers seat and manual passenger seat from a 2017 Big Horn. They were shipped from a yard in Florida to a local yard in my town for no shipping charge.
The seats went in perfectly. I had to run a power wire because my seat connector did not have power in it. I chose to power it directly from the battery. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO FUSE THAT POWER SOURCE AT THE BATTERY to protect the wire all the way to the seat. The factory power seat CB is 25 Amp. I chose to use an inline fuse holder with a 10 Amp fuse to better protect the wire i ran. I do not have pictures of it but there is a plastic trough under the carpet that I ran my new wire in.
In the pictures I will include here show connectors for my factory CD player in the center console. They have nothing to do with the seat. I used a spade tip connector to connect the power wire to the seat.
I have a question if someone can help me. I have a single connector under the seat with one black wire in it. I do not have any thing to connect to it.
My seat works perfectly except for the Lumber Support motor. I will be investigating that later.
Good luck and I hope this helps someone.
