Guys I’m debating on selling my built Tacoma in and joining the mopar clan!! Im trying to steal a leftover 18’ off of a dealers lot.. There are quite a few left over in my area.. that being said, I’m hearing a lot of chatter about the 19s with the ZF trans!! I am not one to buy anything on in its first year (usually wait a couple years for them to iron the bugs out) question is: what’s the consensus on the new ones?? Should i wait a few moths and get a leftover 19’ or try to scoop up an 18’ on the cheap?? I’m leaning towards the 18’ b/c that configuration has been around for a bit.. anyways lemme know

    Thanks

I went with an 18 because the deal was right. I don't think you can go wrong either way

I like the 18s better. The deal breakers to me are the dial shifter and badge placement

I picked up a 19 because of a few engine tweaks, 8 speed tranny, the 12’ screen, rope instead of cable on the winch, lifted front end, and better looking head lights.

There is no way in hell I would go with the ‘18, only because of the trans. I dont care what it would cost, I would pay 10 grand more for a new one vs the leftover.

Although this is the first year for the trans in the hd, it has been around for years and has proven itself. I would worry more about other stuff like electronics within the truck itself (even with an ‘18), rather than the trans. And shitty a/c lol.

    Good luck with your decision!

I’m pretty happy with my 6 spd as a daily driver. There’s the occasional clunk when I confuse it, but overall it’s been solid for just over 20K miles. Being honest I could get the 8 spd in my 2014 1500 to do the same thing, and I still consider that one of the best transmissions I’ve owned. If you prefer the 4th gen front end, and cable vs rope, don’t let the 6 spd scare you away.

Guess it depends on the truck, or the driver, my '18 has been great, once the teething issues with electronics were ironed out. I bought the 18 specifically to avoid the 19, the tranny would be a big draw if you did a lot of long haul driving I suppose, but I prefer the looks of the 18 to the 19...and of course there is that nasty dial shifter...which I guess for a road driver it is fine....but I'm not convinced it is gonna be very good for off roading....but Time will tell!
I don't honestly think you can make a wrong decision here, the cosmetics are a small issue in the scheme of things, but it can be the deciding factor when all is said and done.
Let us know what you end up with!!
