Just beginning to look into AR's and in the great state of CT, we can only buy pre-ban lowers. Anything after '94 is illegal. My buddy bought a pre-ban a few weeks ago for $1900. Yes, $1900. I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on something so overpriced.

What I'm wondering is, would I be able to possibly find a "cheaper" pre-ban lower online and see if my FFL will allow it to ship to them? I'm not sure how this works as I've never purchased online before. Do I pay the company shipping the product for the actual product and shipping? Do I just pick it up from my FFL or do I also owe them a fee as well?

I mainly just want the lower so I can build my own.

Not sure of all of your laws and rules in CT...can't be much worse than the socialist republic of MD where I still reside that banned certain "assault style" firearm a few years back.

I have options when I buy online, I can pay the seller directly, have my new purchase shipped to my FFL, and just pay him the MD fees. Or I can show him what I want, he makes the transaction as an FFL dealer then I pay him for everything. I typically use the latter option when I am purchasing a high dollar firearm and I want to make payments.

Good luck. I actually still have one AR lower I want to build out, but been spending all of my spare cash on either my truck or my bike. :happy107:

You can order the parts online.

All online sellers are required to ship any serial numbered part to an FFL. You pay for the parts and shipping. You'll probably need to find an FFL in your area and get a copy of their license to send to the online seller unless they already have that FFL's documentation on file.

Online sellers like Bud's Gun Shop and Grab A Gun already have info on affiliated FFL's and no further documentation is required. You just select one when placing an order and you are good to go.

From there, the parts go to the FFL and they contact you. You go to their store, fill out some paperwork, pay for the transfer ($25 - $50 in most cases) and then, if necessary the FFL runs a background check and files the necessary paperwork. If your state has a waiting period then you go home and wait for the second call.

I saw some cheaper preban lowers online than what we have here. So I may go in and talk to one of the employees at my FFL and see what their process would be for an online purchase. The cheapest preban they had was $1900 a few weeks ago, but I see preban lowers online, some for about $600-800. The only problem is I can't actually hold/inspect the lower until it gets here.

Glad I moved out of the Liberal state of Ct. 25 years ago lol.. No problems here getting a AR. But man 1900$ For a pre ban WOW.. I thought you could buy a AR in Ct.Cali etc, if it had the magazine clip on it or whatever they call it that make you have to break open the rifle to remove the magazine, no bayonet mount on it and a fixed stock. and a 10 round magazine max. Unless they changed the laws again.. One of my sons live in Ct. and you guys have to get a permit to buy ammo :O Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn:

Good grief, what BS laws! I picked up 2 forged lowers last week for $110. I feel sorry for you guys in states with garbage like this to deal with. I don't think I could take it, I'd have to move.

It used to be any rifle with 2 assault style attachments or more you couldn't buy, but now it's any rifle with one or more assault style attachments. But if you buy a preban lower, you can put whatever you want on the gun as far as stock, upper, grips, etc. 10 round mag limit on all guns.

I can't bring myself to paying that much for an AR, so I'm thinking of looking online to get a better deal. Just have to deal with more BS.

He paid $1900 for the whole gun but all he needed was the lower in order to be legal. He stripped it to the lower and then ordered his own parts. Still a lot though. The gun is probably only worth 800-1000

    That's a sweet looking gun.
