Hello everyone. I'm new the the forums and looking into purchasing a 2014 Outdoorsman, 3.0L Ecodiesel with some extras like full center console and backup camera, block heater, nothing crazy. I believe the build price was about 52K and the invoice was about 46K. I built the truck at the dealer and the basically told me that they can do 500$ over invoice plus subtracting any current offers. Is this a good deal? Is this what everyone else is getting? I bought a 2014 Silverado LT 5.3L and got about 9K$ off MSRP back in October. That is getting tradeded in. Dont want to get hosed at the dealership. Thanks for any info.

That sounds like a good price for a 2500. I guess im really wanting to know if 500$ above invoice - current rebates is a good deal.

Welcome to the forum! :)

But...I've got to go on a little rant...

[scarcasm mode on]
I paid $950 for my '12. I've got a 24" ******, and peed on the salesman's leg to assert my dominance. I'm super awesome, and when the added my trade in, the dealer literally paid me $937,302,201 to drive the new truck off the lot.

That's always how these threads go. 12+ pages on the last one to out an intelligent poster that a trade-in counts as payment.

Ok rant over. :)

Seriously - check truecar.com and go from there. There's no secret to buying a car/truck.

You would be able to get ~$500 under invoice - check out AmEx, NRA, Sams/Costco or any other car buying program you might be a member of.

Truecar.com I've never heard of that. I'll check it out. Thanks. But yes some people include trade, no trade, tax, no tax, etc, etc. I've never thought to look into the Costco thing. Guys on the GM forums did the same thing. Thanks for the reminder.

Just wasn't sure if dealers are willing to go below invoice prior to rebates.

Truecar is pretty awesome!

Checkout the car buying programs - deals with the fleet / internet managers, and they are willing to go under invoice.

Good luck!

Anything above invoice is usually salesperson commission. Plus dealership have 3% holdback in each sale.

Is there "holdback" on a factory ordered truck compared to a truck sitting on the lot.

Hold back is actually 3% x (invoice - destination charge). My experience is it's hard to get dealers to give you all of this, or even a portion.

Personally I think $500 over invoice is too much. Too many other dealers going invoice, or a few hundred under invoice. Is it the end of the world? Probably not, but you asked.

The Sport I just bought was priced right. The dealer sold it under invoice, and they gave me all the hold back as well. Then they subtracted all applicable rebates. All that was before cash down, etc. This is a fairly big dealer in town, and I think they were able to do so because they also get a "kickback" based on total quantity of units they sell. I am not sure how much they get on the backside of each unit but I suspect it grows as quantity goes up. Overall, I think it works like this: They lose $X on the front side, but pick up $Y on the backside. I suspect $Y > $X or they wouldn't do it. After all, they are in the business to make money.

As a final note, be sure to read up on what rebates you qualify for in your area. Some dealers seem to be more "rebate savvy" than others. For instance, some people will qualify for "military", "recent grad", etc rebates. Also, don't forget about special rebates/discounts that may not be factory related such as USAA account holders, which is worth $1,000 savings.

My MSRP was just over 64K and I'm paying 44.8K before tax. I'm buying through my company so that I save the tax. I'm paying 70% MSRP which is one hell of a deal. I went to 2 other dealerships and they said what I was paying was 2000 under their cost and I should take the deal I got. Saves to shop around!

Thanks guys for all the info. It appears that invoice +500 is on the high side of fair pricing. Shopping around is always a plus.

Trading = taking it in the butt.... no way around it. Try unloading private party if you're able. You should be able to sell pretty much instantly for a good chunk above what you will get as a trade.

As for purchase Costco auto buying program is the easiest thing out there that will get you the best price. IMO, Truecar is BS. Their advertisements brag about saving buyers an average of 3K off MSRP. From reading this thread you can see that's nothing to brag about.

I got my 2014 2500 6.4 Hemi Outdoorsman for 39,700 and it was stickered at 48K. The best price pre-Costco was 41,400 for the same truck. And the dealership was supposed to be one of these no-haggle true minimum pricing deals. No haggling unless you bring your Costco card, I guess :)

In Edmonton here I seen some ads.

$64000 for a loaded 2014 ram HEMI 8 speed.

I imagine a 3.0 diesel is right up there to.

Absurd, if you ask me.

I6 cummins 73000+ !!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys...new to the forum but looking to buy a 2014 Ram...can't decide to go after big horn or Laramie tho because of price. I was interested to know (or if you can give me a link to a thread that has the info) what price would be reasonable to expect...invoice according to costco (not a member, but interested in how it works) is 44,272 for the Laramie I built....any insight would be appreciated.

Already had a dealer try to trip me off on a big horn...they think because I'm 26 I'll jump at anything apparently...
