Hello all, I'm new to the forum and new to Ram - this will be my first one! I'm looking at a Laramie or Limited with a sticker price of ~$60K and I'm trying to figure what I should expect to pay. The dealer is offering $9K in discounts and rebates but I've seen people getting 25% off. Any tips on getting a better deal than what they are offering?

Thanks in advance!

Alot of those 25% offs are certain models. If you want 25% go in and say this is the truck I want and this is what I'll give you . If they say no leave and within a day or 2 they will call you with their best offer.

The dealer isn't giving you any rebates, FCA is. Don't let the dealer tell you your getting great deal because they gave you $XXXXX in rebates. Everyone that walks in gets those rebates (if they qualify for them). Take off all the rebates, then start talking price.

I think 25% off is unrealistic right now. New stock is low because of the shutdown. 9k to 10k off seems to be the going price off the $50k plus trucks. If you wait until 2021 comes out, 25% probably will be available (or close to it), then.

I do have to agree it's been a while since I've seen 25% . And inventory is low my local dealer usually has 200+ Rams right now they may have 30 at best.

Exactly right. Generally, the longer a truck sits on a given lot, the more they're willing to work with you on price. The best deals are usually found on current year models, after the new model year vehicles start showing up on lots. But for any vehicle you are interested in, be prepared with a price to offer after doing some research, and make a fair offer. They'll either take it or they won't. But if you show them you're willing to walk away you'll usually hear from them after a few days if the vehicle isn't purchased by someone else.

So here it is cut and dry...

Do your research. Figure out what it is you want and what you need as they typically don't align with each other.

For arguments sake let's work with this truck - https://www.chryslerjeepdodgecityof...Ram-1500-524cc4870a0e0ae824bc96b5e2398f7e.htm from the local dealer near me.

Sticker is $53,725. Dealer discount is $4,835. Two retail cash incentives of $1,000 each totaling $2,000.

Starting sales price is $46,390. This is before any negotiation and before any dealer added garbage on the truck.

My 2020 2500 Tradesman 4x4 snickered for $47,000 and I walked out the door for $41,000. I stripped every dealer add off the truck - wheel locks, tonneau cover, nitrogen in the tires, etc.. Everything but window tint as I was going to do that anyway.

Long story short, do your homework, look around at other dealers in the area and go in with an insultingly lowball offer to see what they counter with.

Good luck...

Bought my wife's 19 jl left over 2 months ago this same way. Sticker was 48 I offered them 34 just because I'm a a hole couple days later signed the papers for 36 out the door. With new tires and custom color matched katskinz.

Thank you all very much for the replies. Clearly there is room to negotiate but maybe not as much as I had hoped based on CV19 and availability. I'll come back to the group and let you know what I pull off!

you only really save if you pay cash.....

right now not much discount but 0% finance.

the models with 25% off have 4 to 7% interest. depending where you live.

works out pretty much the same i think

0% means you leave rebates and other non-dealer discounts on the table.

I financed paying a few percentage points as the discounts outweighed 0%. Essentially, I would have paid $9,000 more if I had taken the 0% rate.

I think the Covid-19 deals are over. If you didn’t strike in the March / April timeframe when dealers HAD TO SELL, you’re now dealing with dealers holding on to every unit they’ve got as more may not be coming.

I'm looking for the biggest discount, paying cash or financing with my CU is my current plan.

I have a friend whom is the GM at a BMW dealership and his inventory is down significantly. He usually has 400+ new BMWs and is down to 90, awaiting cars that should arrive in August.

Take the deal that gives you 25% off and finance it through the dealership with the 4-7% or whatever going rate. You could probably get a better rate through a credit union but sometimes the dealerships won’t give you all the incentives/rebates if you don’t finance with them. Then after the first payment or two pay it off in cash if possible. That is exactly what I did with my 2019 Bighorn purchased last October. MSRP was $52900 but with all the dealer incentives and rebates I bought it for $38700 before TTL. Financed it with the dealership’s 3.99% rate. Just paid it off last week (yes it took me 8 months to save up, wish it would’ve been quicker.)
That way you get the best discount at purchase and then by paying it off relatively quickly you save on the interest cost over the 5 or 6 years. Best of both worlds

I only work with dealers that will work off the dealer invoice. The MSRP is a completel scam and a way to distract you so you will focus on how much they discount the MSRP and not the price you should be paying based on the factory invoice for the dealer. Realize also that the dealers actually pay less than the invoiced amount based on how many units they move during a sales period.

If you do not need a new truck today then I recommend waiting until late August or September or even October to buy a 2020 model. At this time I am seeing very low prices on 2019 trucks with fewer than 5,000 miles on the odometer.

When I go into a dealer I ask for the invoice sheet. If they bilk at my request I'll walk. And, I only deal with the purchase price - never the payment because they'll just try to extend the life of the loan to make the payment lower but keep the price of the truck the same (boo). And, I'm always prepared to walk if we don't agree. I also don't give them the option of the continual back-and-forth walk from the GMs office. They get two trips to the office for a deal; if we can't come to terms I'll simply ask for my keys (if they've appraised my truck and are now trying to hold my keys hostage) and walk away. Now, I have walked away from trucks that I really wanted at the time, but have often seemed to have gotten better deals at a later time on a nicer truck.

Good luck and recommend that you know what you want when you go into the dealership, and make sure to look at their website to know what they are showing for inventory before you go in. That way, you already know what you want to se as soon as you it the lot. As always...JMHO

Quesrion...so if i decide to order something instead...where can I find out what rebates I can get...like ramtrucks.com?

Can I negotiate that price when ordering...basically can I ask for invoice right away?

Do I check on rams site on day of order or delivery for rebates?

How can I find out what the dealer has for incentives...because we know its like pulling teeth at the dealer?

Used to own a Ram 1500, Current owner of a Dodge Charger scat pack

Go here and find the vehicle model you’re looking for and find any incentives - https://www.ramtruckcurrentoffers.com/

Most incentives require you take retail delivery by a specific date. If your order is delayed for any reason your discounts may disappear.

Dealer discounts apply ONLY to their stock on hand. Order a vehicle and there’s no dealer discount in most but not all cases.

Unless you’re looking for an odd-ball configuration (i.e.: green paint, brown interior, V6, crank windows, etc...) chances are the dealer can locate a few units in your area that meet 95% of your criteria.

At this time of the year in traditional times, manufacturers are beginning to reject current model year orders in anticipation of building next years models.
