Going Power Wagons in Moab this year, will be my first visit to Moab and looking forward to it. Question for those that have gone before have you guys seen any issues running the trails with having a canopy on the truck?
Running 35's may go to 37's before the trip but i don't have sliders, are sliders a must have or just a nice to have and stay off the "hard" trails.
Any other recommendations appreciated. Thanks

Straight from PWIM website:

"Min. Requirements for Moderate trails: 35" tires & Working Rear Locker, Sliders recommended
* Min. Requirements for Difficult trails: 37" tires & Working Rear Locker + Front Diff Protection, Sliders strongly recommended"

Canopy??? You mean RTT?

You'll be ok. You won't like it on harder trails if you get more off-camber. Butt pucker factor increase. But you'll fine.

If you have not taken you wagon on trails similar to Moab, I doubt you will jump right in on the hard stuff anyway. You will have a ton of fun regardless if you do or don’t. So I would not sweat the extra 4-5k in mods by May to only qualify for the Difficult trails, unless you are dead set on doing them. Then you also need front differential protection as well.
See you there!!

Pretty awesome that you guys are taking a truck this size on trails like that. Used to take my 73 1/2 ton short bed PW on all kinds of fun adventures in the Santa Cruz mountains (California, 30 + yrs ago) Have an 18 PW now that I wouldn't even think about taking on the same trails. Not that the 18 wouldn't make it...just would NOT take $60+ thousand worth of truck on the same trails! Not YET anyway ;)

Canopy/topper like an ARE or Leer, just wondering if the guys have issues with the topper munching on the cab from frame flex ect..
The flex is 1” max at full weight on either front tire.(nose dive) all other positions will not effect your camper. So if you have that 1 inch clearance between the cab and camper, you are safe. It is exaggerated at the top of the cab measurement, it’s 1/4-3/8 between the bed and cab at the top on the bed. Unless you high center. Then it opens up a little.

The point of the PW is to do this kind of stuff. IF I/we (clearly not every one) did not want to explore new terrain at this level, we would have just bought a basic 2500 4 x 4. but we (I ) want to off road in luxury. Also who wants to drive a Jeep 1200 miles across 4 states with a family of 5? Here is a picture of my ride when I was young and mine now that I’m old.

Dang, your truck looks like an Ark out on the street waiting for a flood. Every time someone says “ you wagon it to long to off-road” I show them your pictures. And the crazy stuff you crawl over.

As I said, "Not Yet". Original idea was to buy a truck that could hook up to a travel trailer (7000 lbs) fill the back of the truck with "essentials" and get the %$@# out of dodge if the need may arise. In other words, get as far away from population as possible. In my eyes, that means places that the less prepared are not able to get to. Just sayin.. does not hurt to be prepared.

Yup. I get the same three questions every time.

1) “You’re going to wheel in THAT?!” Yup
2) “Really?!” *sigh* Yup
3) “Have you done it before?” *sigh again* Yup
