At about 4000 miles my 2024 Ram I starting getting lifter leakdown and I get the expected clicking noise after the truck sits overnight. It started out as once every few mornings, and now is just about every morning. Lifter noise goes away within 3 seconds when oil pressure builds. I am pretty sure which ever lifter is under compression when I turn off the engine has leak down over night.

My question is "What is unique about these lifters that allows leakdown?"

My 2014 Ram can sit for several weeks and I never hear any lifter noise at start-up

The only difference between pre-2017 lifters and post-2017 lifters (that i am aware of) is the larger needles in the needle bearings that roll along the cam. The rest of the lifter should be exactly the same as your 2014 Ram. It is not uncommon for lifters to loose pressure overnight (if that's what is actually happening in your case). Not something I would worry about, and it is certainly not worth replacing your lifters.

I think I prety much agree on the worryt part...but it is my OCD that comes out when I hear the2 seconds of ticking...and I know there is no rel load on the engine (low revs).

Thanks for your thoughts on this

I have used Castrol Edge 0W20 to start. Funny thing, I had som Liqui Moly left for a Audi (Not the AA version). Used that once, and the noise went away. Had a Dealer oil change, and the prpblem came back. Then tried Liqui Moly AA but still had the noise. The engine now hae Castrol Edge 10w30. It might be 20% better with 10W30....meaning that out of 10 morning starts there is no lifter tick for 2 or 3 of those starts. I am thinking that oil really does not "circulate" through the lifters. When a lifter leaks down, it will refil when the engine is started. So maybe the lifters still contain some of the lighter weight oil. I know it is not a major problem, but I feel so much better with a quiet engine start.

What filter are you using, the Hemi is slightly picky when it comes to oil and filters

I have been using a Purolater filter and 0-40 European oil. What is the golden rail oil filter? I would like a larger capacity filter, something like the old days size.

Royal Purple 20-820 or the FE Fram endurance filters seem to have the better reps as far as filters go.That European oil probably isn't doing you any favours,as most euro oils have had the additive packages seriously depleted in the last few years. I run dual remote filters, and i can get some pretty big filters on my set-up ;)

Nice dual filter set up! Which filter head did you use? I’ve been looking at switching mine to a 3/4-16 setup like yours so I can choose from a wider variety of larger oil filters. Thanks!

It's a modified transdapt 1227 kit.I upgraded it to -10 (5/8") hoses and high flow fittings, and then spent a few minutes porting it and rounding off every sharp corner i could get at with a die grinder. With a stock pump and the idle turned up to 750 rpm,my truck hot idled at 50/51 psi,at 60 mph it was at 59/60 psi and peaked at 75 psi above 6,000 rpm, using the filters pictured and 5W-30 Redline. The stock oil pump is perfectly adequete if you turn the idle up,and use a good quality 5W-30 oil,as very few trucks with the Hellcat or Melling high volumm pumps do any better then my truck did with this set-up.The best thing you can do for a Hemi's cam is to up the idle rpm,as the cam lobes and lifter wheels are strictly oiled by the oil flung off the crankshaft, there is no pressurized oil fed to them,as they're hung out in the open in the crankcase

How can you do the idle up? I'm in the process of installing a dual oil filter setup and would like to increase the idle rpm too.

On your 12 a cheap Diablo tuner will allow you to turn up the idle,it should even allow you to up the shift points to about 6,000/6100,as the hemi is tuned to short shift itself at 5600/5700 rpm,and the stock cam is good to about 6100 before it noses over
