I’ve got a 2010 Ram Sport with aftermarket LED tail lights. About a month ago I got a “Left rear blinker out” notification and then the alternator went bad. Replaced alternator and the notification went away.

Now it’s back but the alternator seems to be working just fine. Anybody have any ideas on what to do about this? I’ve had the LED tail lights for over a year so I know they’re not the cause. Just wondering if that warning coming right before my alternator failed was coincidence or something more.

Thanks

Have you checked if your third brake light is functioning?

3rd break light is out. Would that cause the notification?

Edit: Also, it’s intermittent. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it says the light is out...

As far as I know the third brake light being out will cause a tail light out message. I don't think there is a third brake light message that will show in the evic so it will show tail light out instead.

Okay, I’ll replace the bulb and see if that fixes it, thanks.

Hang on a minute. I think you guys are talking past each other. Does it say your left turn signal is out, or your tail light? If your third BRAKE light is out, it will show up on EVIC as “right brake light out”. If it says your turn signal is out, does the light actually work with a fast flash?

When I had my 2010 CTD, I put the recon tail lights in and this happened after about a year and a half. They said it was probably a burned out resistor and wouldn’t do nothing for me. I never did end up messing with it, thought.

Wow thanks for the catch. I feel dumb now.
Sorry about that I was jumping on the forum as I was working. Guess it wasn't paying complete attention.

Do your aftermarket tail lights have separate resistors? Or are they built in?
